09/2017-Present Senior Systems Engineer

American Axle & Manufacturing (Southfield, MI)

MPG Users/Email integration to AAM environment: The challenges of this part of the project included the 4,000+ user mailboxes migration from 13 separated Active Directory Domains and Exchange environments. The activities needed included:

Coordinate with DMC Technology Group team for scheduling and migration of user mailboxes using BitTitan tool.

Recreate Conference Room mailboxes following AAM standards for configuration and naming conventions.

Design and implement a script to assign the corresponding Office 365 license to each migrated mailbox.

SMTP Relay infrastructure maintenance: As SMTP Relay (SMTP.aam.net) was configured as an Exchange 2007 connector, due to heavy usage it reached the physical address limit on the Access Control List. As part of the tasks to remediate the following actions were taken:

Export the list of currently authorized IP Addresses and Ranges.

Evaluate the devices IP’s in order to group addresses in ranges to minimize the number of single IPs authorized, like Server Networks, etc.

Design and run a PowerShell script to remove individual IPs and add the optimized ranges.

AAM Legacy migration preparation: In order to minimize the impact of moving 8,800+ mailboxes from exiting Exchange 2007/2013 infrastructure several activities were taken place including:

Coordinate with Network team to obtain an accurate list of current bandwidth from all Remote Sites to our Migration End Point in AAM’s Detroit Headquarters.

Create test migration batches for each Remote site using a sample size value 15 GB to evaluate the time and potential errors that would be encountered during Production migration. During this test, Mexico’s sites were flagged as a potential risk due to limited bandwidth and large number of mailboxes.

Design and run a script in order to obtain a list of mailboxes per site that we could present all IT Site leaders for review and Office 365 license assignment request. Collect feedback and integrate it into the Migration Master File list.

Plan and implement the replacement of Exchange 2007 Public Folder Calendars to Exchange Mailbox Calendar in order to have them available for users after migration to Office 365.

AAM User migration: The main challenge in this phase was to reduce all potential impact to users to a minimal in order to maintain a working as usual environment when possible. The activities include:

Coordinate with Solution Architect in order to have the appropriate users migrated in the planed cutover times. If needed, handle special requests like VIP users or important Shared Mailboxes that need to be moved close to specific users/owner.

Coordinate and assign Office 365 licenses including handling site request for license upgrades due to functional needs.

As no special tools are used during migration, manual error handling is required for some mailbox due to invalid SMTP Alias, job synchronization errors due to bandwidth constrains, conversion of mailboxes to Shared Mailbox or Room Mailbox to avoid unnecessary license assignment.

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) Setup: To minimize potential security risks in AAM environment a conditional access rule has been setup to require an additional security layer (mobile device call/message or application approval/code) when the users are not working from an internal (site) network.

Exchange / O365 Senior Administration support. The activities include:

Coordinate the review and assignment of ServiceNow incident and task tickets on our queue. Provide assistance or advise when required, including the assignment to different resource or team if required.

Work with IT Site Support and Office 365 Level 1 support on elevation requests for both On Premises and migrated users.

Coordination with different AAM team for incidents/tasks that required tasks from multiple teams, like Skype For Business team for Unified Messaging / Voice Mail cases, Security Team for potential email security problems (malware, spoofing), Server team for infrastructure needs like additional disk space requirements.

Work on scheduled Exchange infrastructure changes like Server license upgrades on Exchange and IIS Services.

Represent the Exchange team on escalation events (Priority 1 ticket calls) generated by service outages that could include Exchange Services or Server down, partial outages like mobile phone functionality (ActiveSync issues), etc.

As part of the sale of Grede (castings) division I have assisted by providing comprehensive reports on User Accounts, User Mailboxes, Shared Mailboxes and Distribution Lists currently on AAM environment that would need to be cloned or migrated into the new Grede environment and Office 365 tenant.

We have assisted Grede migration team on setting up a forwarding rule from current AAM mailboxes to their new Grede email address. We have also disabled all email connectivity to their AAM mailbox to ensure they can only use the correct mailbox.
