Name of Assignment or Project: Government of Punjab through Punjab Bus Metro Society (PBMS) has taken up the task of implementation of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) for the city of Amritsar. PBMS has engaged UMTC, A joint venture company of M/s IL&FS Ltd. and Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India (GOI) to carry out the design, securing approvals, tendering and project management consultancy for complete implementation of BRTS in the city of Amritsar. The total estimated cost of the project is 495.54Crores and includes 25.43Crores for improvement of Bhandari Bridge, 27.27Crores for Verka RoB and 70.67Crores for Elevated BRTS corridors as major components. Cost of ITS infrastructure cost is 28.07Crores.

BRTS Characteristics: BRTS can be simply defined as ‘Metro on Road’. The system is characterized by metro like operating environment to reduce time lag and augment passenger convenience. The key features include dedicated lanes, closed stations, off-board ticketing, ITS and PIS facilities, level boarding and alighting, attractive high capacity buses etc.

Status of Project: Construction Completed & In Operations

The Construction of the project was initiated in Mar-2014 by various vendors/ contractors. Few more components such as Water Harvesting Recharge Wells were added at later stage and the project was launched in Full Scale in Jan-2019. I was managing the contracts of 15nos of pocket projects under BRTS. We have even assist PBMS, PWD and have also submit our recommendation being PMC contractor`s extra claims and have successfully settled the additional claims of concerned contractor`s based on the Contract Agreement and segregated correspondence record being kept by me. UMTCL is also handling the Handholding services of Operations of BRTS and I am also the part of the team assigned for Handholding services.
