PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

CATERPILLAR INC.

Senior Design Engineer - Operator Cab and Modules – Tucson, AZ, Electric Rope Shovel

Jan 2019 - Apr 2020

● Led the team that followed the Cab build from start to end to record issues that contribute to inconsistent and excessive build time

● Generated ideas to reduce cost of the Cab by 15%, reduce assembly time by 3 weeks, and eliminate hidden factory by spending time on the assembly line, fabrication supplier, and at a mine in Canada during field commissioning

● Used PUGH matrix, 3D virtual immersive display and 3D printing as appropriate

● Benchmarked Cab design with key competitors and similar machines

● Participated in supplier selections process for a new Cab Structure supplier

● Developed Cab requirements document and project plan to deliver design improvements that align with major milestones like delivery deadline, supplier lead time and production build schedule

Senior Design Engineer - Heavy Structures – Tucson, AZ, Electric Rope Shovel

Oct 2017 - Dec 2018

● Participated in the resourcing of heavy structural components worth hundreds of thousands of dollars as part of facility optimization by representing engineering in technical discussions with new suppliers

● Worked closely with manufacturing to determine whether to rework or reject non-conforming parts. Average cost of these parts was around $100,000 with lead time of 6 months to 1 year. Factors considered were safety, cost of rework vs reject, availability of replacement part, appearance and delivery date

● Lead a project to resolve fit up issues on Crowd frame guard

● Developed new Crowd frame to support the new generation Motor while keeping the frame backward compatible to support aftermarket orders and remanufacturing facility

● Developed new Hoist Drum spider concept to resolve field failures due to casting quality issues

● Based on VOC, developed sealed service center to prevent dust/water ingress and added Oil sampling functionality from one convenient ground accessible location along with remote fluid fill ports to minimize downtime during PM

● Developed 90 lbs. lube barrel with mechanical shut-off and grease filter for extended service interval and to prevent costly grease spills

● Worked on hydraulics simplification project on 400-ton mechanical drive truck, that involved reducing the number of pumps, developing single compartment hydraulic tank, and combining various systems to reduce Total Cost of Ownership by reducing serviceable components

● Identified and executed efficiency improvement projects

1.Documented Air system requirements

2.Published a list of existing block clamps

● Co-authored 2 design guides published in the internal collection of standards/guides
