I have more than 30 years experience working at an active landfill as an equipment operator and supervisor.. I was operation supervisor over 25 employees. I was supervisor for 10 years. I was in charge of all daily operation of the landfill.

Heavy Equipment Specialist

I operated heavy equipment such as dozers, compactors, motor graders, front-end loaders, scrapers, water wagons, water trucks, tractor trailers, dump trucks and backhoes. I operate graders to change internal access roads to the working face of the landfill and to ensure that washouts are fixed before outside or internal haulers are allowed to move up to the working face. I operate the dozer and compactor pushing trash in the working face and operate scraper to haul dirt for the working face for daily cover. I assist in the setting of grade stakes to ensure compliance with height restrictions. While serving as an interim supervisor, I assist in the implementation of policies and procedures regulating and maintaining a sanitary landfill according to subtitle D of the federal regulations. I supervise, direct and coordinate daily assignments for the heavy equipment operators, spotters and temporary employees. I check the working area in the landfill on an on-going basis to ensure compliance and safety standards are being followed. To minimize accidents, I make sure there is radio communication between operators, spotters and myself and ensure that everyone is wearing/using all safety equipment that has been issued to them. I maintain daily records for maintenance of heavy equipment to include equipment status and daily utilization. Attend weekly management meeting to discuss concerns, issues and projects that are upcoming or on-going. I explain landfill policies and procedures to customers. As an effective communicator and motivator, I listen to what others have to say before taking any action and then provide a positive example for others to follow. I also make suggestions on how to improve safety issues related to equipment and employees.

Landfill Equipment Operator

I operated heavy equipment such as dozers, compactors, motor graders, front-end loaders, scrapers, water wagons, water trucks, tractor trailers, dump trucks and backhoes. In addition, I worked at the solid waste transfer station and moved compact trash to the landfill site in a tractor trailer. I also operated a green waste grinder to convert green waste to mulch. Some knowledge of federal, state and local regulations was required to ensure compliance to issues governing the safe and sanitary operation of a landfill.
