Developed a strategic plan to address the maintenance and production improvement needs of the plant and successfully executed a series of capital projects to address production challenges, improving plant reliability and output.

From January to September 2017, I managed the plant from with minimal oversight from the Regional Plant Manager who was based in Arizona, when the Plant Manager unexpectedly left the company and a replacement was not immediately available. During this time, I kept the plant under budget while addressing multiple major maintenance issues, including the installation of new equipment, and had production numbers on track for a record production year.

As the Unit Manager I oversaw the Maintenance, Quality, and Logistics teams of the plant and took a leadership role in ensuring that production goals were met while following the principles of lean manufacturing, complying with environmental regulations, meeting corporate expectations, and conscientiously managing the plant budget. Additionally, I took personal responsibility for cultivating teamwork while also ensuring that the plant had an excellent health, safety, and environmental track record.

Represented the plant in weekly Plant Manager Safety and Production conference calls providing input to corporate representatives and answering their questions.

Worked with the Plant Manager and corporate representatives to craft annual operations and capital budgets, and yearly goals, objectives and targets, while taking into consideration necessary plant upgrades, HSE improvements, staff development, and corporate goals.

Developed 1 to 5 year Capital Plans for this multi-division site.

Managed a wide variety of capital projects including preliminary design work and negotiations with contractors, government officials, and utilities for new projects scheduled for the chemical production site. Additionally, oversaw general site maintenance and improvements from design through completion including security upgrades, building and infrastructure maintenance, and renovations.

Spearheaded security initiatives and coordinated environmental efforts with neighboring landowners, utilities, railroad representatives, and government agencies.

Key Projects:

•Parts Warehouse: Oversaw the demolition of the former parts warehouse and conversion of a newly acquired building into warehouse space that met the needs of the plant for the management of both parts for projects and parts inventory for the daily working of the plant. Project began in 2012 and completed in 2013.

•Customer Care Center: Upscale facility used for meetings with our customers and to host corporate events. Worked with members of the corporate Capital team and the CEO to ensure that the center would meet customer and corporate needs. This 1.4 million dollar project began in July 2013 and was completed in January 2014 under budget and received company-wide recognition for the execution of this project.

•Lab Renovation Project: This 2.3 million dollar project began in September of 2013 and was completed in July of 2014. The project transformed our outdated lab into a state-of-the-art testing lab that met and exceeded expectations. This project included the establishment of a temporary lab for use during the renovation and the entire project was completed over $200,000 below budget.

Worked with the Vice President of Human Resources and company labor counsel to represent the Kansas City site in arbitrations and mediations.

Oversaw security contractors and plant security at the local level.

Wrote scopes of work for various site projects and service contracts. Reviewed bids, negotiated contracts, was a key part of the team that evaluated and acquired new assets and property.

Supervised the Facilities Services Coordinator and Storeroom personnel.

Active member of the budgetary planning team for annual operations and future business developments.

After the facility was purchased by Mars Petcare the plant underwent a temporary shutdown. When operations were resumed I was contacted by Mars Petcare and asked if I would come back to help re-open the site, due to my familiarity with the process and equipment.

Drove compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).

Managed shift production for the entire plant, three divisions consisting of 100 plus associates, both Mars Petcare/Nutro and third-party associates, including interviewing and hiring new associates.

Directed personnel on my shift including associate performance reviews, disciplinary actions and training.
