Professional Experience and ‘In-Service Training’:

Community Health Work/Health Promotion Officer Studies at Level 4 at Candlelight Nursing College, Durban Campus. The focus of Health Promotion is on prevention of diseases, promotion of health and prevention of social problems. Whilst training on campus for theory sessions, practical sessions are with an assigned Community Based Organization to carry out basic assessments of household groups, individuals and communities; to provide basic Health Education and Referrals for a wide range of services; facilitating Community Projects, Campaigns and Workshops; and also support and assist in navigating the Health and Social Services system.

AEA Work with ER24 Private Ambulance Service, Polokwane Branch: The Polokwane ER24 Branch services the entire Limpopo Province attending to both short and long distance calls, medical and trauma calls, primary calls and hospital transfers within Limpopo and to neighboring provinces and Botswana. I have worked as a senior in a front line ambulance that services Advanced Life Support calls and as shift leader on a 4in-4out, day and night shift rotation. Keeping the work place and vehicles clean, vehicle and equipment inspection and logging, stock taking, store room management, Oxygen, linen, sharps disposal and car fuel runs, vehicle booking and delivering for services and repairs, treating and tranporting patients, patient report form writing and checking other crews, patient report form queries reconciliation from medical aid companies, quotations request for calls and events from the Billing and Events departments, receipting cash clients, banking, attending to religious and sporting events, marketing at schools, workplaces, doctors offices, clinics, hospitals and individuals as to the nature of the service and packages offered for groups with ER24 Ambulance Service and the ER24 Learning Centre that can be brought to the client, hosting additional Events Crew from headoffice for big events, Occupational Health and Safety crew for the base, revisiting and keeping in touch with our contacts like other Ambulance Services and so on, training volunteers and third persons on bus, are some part of my ILS experience.

Theory phase encompassing - Anatomy and Physiology, Emergency Medical Care, Traumatology, Practice & Ethics, Ambulance Technology. Various practical skills – including Intravenous Therapy, Defibrillation, Needle Cricothyrodomy, Needle Thoracenthesis, AEA Drugs and their administration.
Practical phase – Working in Casualty, Primary Healthcare, Maternity and Obstetrics Unit shifts at different government and private hospitals as well as with emergency front line vehicles in the Netcare911, ER24 and Metro Ambulance Services.
