The UWT Waterflood SASBU ETL Project involves the creation of Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) packages to extract data from SASBU data sources (Energy Components – transactional data and IWMCAC – master data); the transformation of data for purposes of loading into the Waterflood release 1 staging database; and the integration of the ETL packages into the Waterflood Batch Data Management process.

Project Description:

The main objective of this project is to cater the BI needs of Microsoft for the Business Intelligence Customer Support Services applications and Enterprise Services applications. These applications are further sub-divided to serve different set of users.

Most of the applications in BI space are hosted on the Central Metal Controller server (CMC) which helps in monitoring the jobs from one centralized server. This is achieved by deploying the SSIS packages at run time on the target server and the configuration values for the package are read from metadata tables.

The information about the progress of the packages is logged on the CMC server which reduces the need of connecting to multiple servers when managing many applications. Further the package

Configuration details, stored at the detailed level help to clearly and quickly understand the data flow of any application with ease helping to analyze the data related issues efficiently and quickly.

Most of the applications pull the data from the Enterprise Data warehouse on which the data-marts are built to serve the reporting needs of different set of users.

Besides these applications, I have worked on various applications in BI which has immensely helped me in gaining a good insight in the designing of the Data Warehouse and Reporting applications, the basis nuances in the design of each application and also the role of SSIS, SSAS and SSRS in designing them.
