Software Engineer

Work in C# and VB .NET, JavaScript, CSS, Java, GWT, Hibernate, SQL Server, MVC/Razor, Python and XSLT,. Work from home office with travel to Boise headquarters as needed.

Developed a client portal using Microsoft MVC/Razor and Bootstrap. This portal supports every aspect of preparing and submitting SEC filings, as well as all administrative functions: user management, security between client companies, branding for subcontractors, and so on. Passed an independent penetration test with one minor source modification.

Maintained and extended a Java/Google Web Toolkit application for creating XBRL filings (Java/Eclipse/GWT).

Created a web-based XBRL viewer for company clients and a renderer to create and upload XBRL documents to it.

Modified the SEC’s XBRL renderer (C#) to add company-proprietary value.

Modified the SEC’s next-gen renderer (Python) to add company-proprietary value.

IT Manager (1997–2000)

Served as manager of Plant Floor Applications, and acting manager of System Assurance. Position involved the integration of shop floor systems to business systems, with the goal of improving the timeliness and accuracy of production data. In the System Assurance position, oversaw maintenance, configuration control and technical support for plant business, desktop, and network infrastructure.

Served on a plant-wide tiger team to reduce WIP by 50% in calendar year 2000. This was achieved by deploying i2’s Factory Planner package. I did the engineering to integrate the plant’s mainframe-based production database to Factory Planner.

Served on a plant-wide tiger team to attain accuracy in reported lot status and weights in order to predict order shortages. I achieved this by introducing hand-held scanners for the schedulers to gather lot information from the plant floor, and integrating them to the mainframe. I developed the scanner-based software.

Developed a web page that obtained and publicized mainframe-based current WIP status at each production center. This example of ‘appropriate technology’ had a profound impact on WIP levels.

Managed the Y2K upgrades to the plant’s computing infrastructure and certain plant-floor applications.

Managed a plant-wide migration to Microsoft Outlook (about 700 desktops).

System Manager and Software Engineer/Consultant (1988-1997)

Responsible for system procurement, management and deployment for the Manufacturing Systems Department. This included security and configuration control of about 115 Unix and VMS systems. Served as the local consultant for VMS and Unix software development.

Scratch-built a message-oriented middleware system for feed-forward and feedback processing information between the plant’s disparate computing systems. Ultimately connected VMS, Unix, Modcomps, and the IBM mainframe.

Maintained the plant’s planning/loading simulator, and reduced its run time 15-fold. Established strategic relationships with plant planners to overcome trust issues.

Managed maintenance contracts with numerous software and hardware vendors, achieving stability in a very uncertain capital environment, as well as some pretty good deals.
