• The daily maintenance of the equipment in the following fertiliser production plants, namely, ammonium sulphate plant, nitric acid plant, demineralisation plant and the bagging plant.
• Managing a structure with 3 foreman (each having 8 to 10 mechanical tradesmen) and 3 technicians.
• Ensuring the safety of all foremen, technicians, tradesmen and contractors reporting in the org structure under the South African equivalent of Worksafe BC Occupational Health and safety regulation.
• Develop task risk assessments and ensure that they are communicated to all artisans.
• Manage the training of all subordinates and ensure that individual career paths are followed.
• Maintenance of the 3 boilers in the demineralisation plant to ensure availability and statutory compliance.
• Manage the Nitro mechanical maintenance project portfolio to ensure that capital and renewal projects are executed on cost and schedule.
• Manage the mechanical budget and have a handle of budget versus actual costs throughout the financial year. There must be a handle on committed costs as well.
• Project leader of all plant outages including the yearly gauze/catalyst change in the Lamont boiler.
• Ensure availability of equipment in order to support the production budget.

• First priority is to ensure safety of all personnel in the org structure under the Occupational Health and Safety act.(The South African equivalent of Worksafe BC Workers Compensation Act, Part 3 and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation)
• Manage the maintenance of the non pressure parts of a boiler such as drag chains, burners, soot blowers, fine ash removal systems and the coarse ash removal systems. This was solids handling/slurry service.
• Ensure that task risk assessments are reviewed regularly and job observations are conducted on critical tasks..
• Manage the statutory equipment portfolio that includes PSV’s, tanks, de-aerators and pipelines.
• Manage the maintenance budget for the current year and draw up budget projections for the upcoming financial year.
• Execution of the Asset management process in order to improve asset performance.
• Ensure that maintenance strategies are implemented and kept up to date and relevant. Maintenance strategies must be reviewed regularly for relevance and compliance.
• Manage annual equipment shutdowns and coordinate short term boiler outages to address immediate defects.
• Provide mechanical assistance in supporting the production budget. The equipment availability and mean time between failures (MTBF) must be kept high.

• The daily maintenance of four units; namely U244, U205, U255 and U505 that take in raw water and supply demineralised water to the boilers.
• Managing the maintenance of all mechanical equipment at Waterworks. This included pumps, pressure vessels, pipelines, safety valves, clarifiers and thickeners. This involves the coordination of mechanical expertise through planning in order to ensure statutory compliance and integrity.
• Ensuring the safety of all foreman, technicians, artisans and contractors reporting in the org structure. Safety of personnel is a top priority.
• Ensure that task risk assessments are in place and are communicated to all employees. Critical observations on critical tasks must be conducted.
• Execution of the Asset management process and principles in order to improve asset performance.
• Manage the mechanical maintenance project portfolio to ensure continual renewal of the plant.
• Manage the Waterworks East mechanical budget and have a handle of budget versus actual costs throughout the financial year. Budget projections have to be carried out for the next financial year.
• Project leader of the annual plant shutdowns. This involves coordinating a multi- disciplinary team in budgeting, scoping, planning and executing a 2 week equipment shutdown.
• Provide mechanical assistance in supporting the production budget.
• Accountable to monitor critical operating parameters of process equipment.
