Effective leadership and project management skills as demonstrated through work and extracurricular activities.

Skilled in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Thermal Engineering.

Highly motivated and self-starting individual with the creative ability to carry through on projects and contribute to innovation.

Strong design, numerical modelling and simulation skills demonstrated through experience and course work in Solid works, Star CCM and Fluent.

Programming: C (intermediate), Matlab (intermediate). Education

University of Washington, Seattle, WA Dec 2019

Master of Science, Mechanical Engineering

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India August 2015 Bachelor of Technology, Manufacturing Science and Engineering Work and Research Experience

Polymer optics and Processing lab, University of Washington, Seattle, WA Jun 2018- Dec 2019 Master’s thesis

Developed a steady state quasi-1-D model for a polymer optical fiber drawing by assuming the velocity and temperature changes across the radial direction of the polymer to be negligibly small. A Trouton viscosity model is used to predict the normal viscous stress acting on the polymer. Inlet speed and the infinite fin were used as boundary conditions at the fiber inlet, exit speed and zero thermal diffusion were used as boundary conditions at the fiber exit. The non-linear coupled boundary value problem is solved using an iterative process of Rk45 and the finite difference methods.

Modeled the natural convection and the forced convection heat transfer to the polymer from the adjacent air by using empirical relations from the literature.

Calculated the radiation heat transfer from all the furnace elements to the polymer elements using enclosure analysis.

Estimated the velocity and the free surface shape of the polymer during the drawing process.

Predicted the temperature of the polymer and the contribution difference modes of heat transfer to the polymer.

Compared the free surface shape obtained from the 1-D model, to the 2-D simulation and the experimental results from the literature.

The free surface shape obtained from the 1-D model is used as an initial guess for the transient 3-D simulations to reduce the computational time.

Other projects

Simulated a lid-driven cavity with temperature rise due viscous dissipation was simulated using fluent for the cases of constant and temperature dependent viscosity with insulated walls.

Experimental and Computational analysis of the turbulent flows in a rectangular duct. Quality Analyst, Timken India limited, Jamshedpur, India July2015-Feb2016

Solved large scale manufacturing problems like, abrasions on the rollers of taper roller bearings after the honing process that was used to decrease the surface roughness of the rollers.

Held a monthly evaluation of defective bearings received by the customers. Undergraduate Research Assistant, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India July2014-May2015

Studied Wear Characteristics of PVD TiAlN, CVD Al2O3 over WC+ Co substrate in High-Speed CNC Turning of Medium Carbon Steel.

Monitored the wear signature on Rake and Flank surface at regular intervals and the tool was later probed for the status of coating and iron diffusion into the tool.

Other Experience
