EXPERIENCE

6/1982 – 1/1999

CLASS A MECHANIC/CERTIFIED WELDER, SAN MIGUEL ELECTRIC COOP.

At SMEC I started as a trainee and rotated through various areas of the plant. In 1987 I was promoted to B Mechanic. In 1989 I passed my Welding Certification and was promoted to Class A Mechanic / Welder. In this position was responsible for daily maintenance activities on pumps, bearings, motors, conveyors, and crushers. This also included pump tear down and rebuild. I was also a Certified Boiler Welder and worked on boiler valves and associated piping with pressures in excess of 2800 PSI. Qualified and competent pipe fitter.

4/1999 – PRESENT

MANAGER, MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE,

San Antonio Water System

I started my career at SAWS a mechanic / welder. Advanced to the Superintendent position of a Construction / Maintenance group within a year. In this capacity our group was responsible for large maintenance projects such as new equipment installation. In January 2012 I was appointed Mechanical Maintenance Manager over the entire group. In my present capacity I oversee the daily Maintenance activities of 52 direct reports, also work closely with onsite contractors regarding equipment isolation, demolition and installation as well as attend bi-weekly Construction progress meetings. I am currently working with three onsite contactors.

Responsible for the Annual Budget to ensure adequate funding is in place for the Department in the next year. Over the years I have overseen numerous Capitol Improvement Projects that were done in-house at great cost savings to SAWS. Some examples are as follows,

Influent Screen Replacement at Dos Rios, Leon Creek, and Salado Creek WRC’s

Heat exchanger replacement at Dos Rios (6 of 12 replaced to date)

24” Mag Meter Replacement at Leon Creek

42” Mag Meter installation at Dos Rios

Dos Rios Boiler # 3 installation to include piping

Installation of Granular Activated Carbon filtration system at Winwood Pump Station near Boerne, Tx

These are just a few of the many projects my group has completed. I have enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at SAWS but am now looking for new challenges.

ACTIVITIES

Enjoy spending time with my wife of 36 years and our children and grandchildren. In my spare time I am an avid golfer and like to go on dove hunts. I have cooked at the annual church picnic for over 30 years. I have coached every level of youth baseball and softball doing this over 20 years. Maintained and had the fields ready for all youth league and High School baseball / softball games during this time and continued to do this till 4 years ago.
