OBJECTIVE
To obtain a Deckhand or Junior Deckhand Position on a 35 meter + Motor or Sailing Yacht. My goal is to progress upward to a deck officer on a superyacht, and along the way I want to make friends, meet fellow mariners, and see the world. SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
After completing my STCW 95+10 and a combined General Hand / Steward course in 2018, I was fortunate to obtain valuable experience on a 35 metre yacht (M/Y Kokomo II) from 21 May to 27 June 2018 as a general hand / assistant steward. During this period the vessel was in the final stages of a major refit at Riverside Marina in Brisbane. I assisted the crew during the completion of the refit, the floating of the vessel from the hard stand and preparation for a voyage from Brisbane to Hamilton Island / Airlie Beach. I then accompanied the crew on board during the passage to Airlie Beach during which time I participated in work on deck and in the interior in preparation for a forthcoming charter. Unaisi Naisorotabua
On 28 June I returned to Fiji and spent 3 months with Yacht Help (www.yachthelp.com) working on the docks assisting visiting yachts with maintenance, provisioning and cleaning. I have experience in painting, varnishing, antifouling, and metal polishing. During the period of 15 October to 20 December was employed on a as a temporary deckhand aboard two sailing yachts both clearing Fiji ahead of the 2-18/2019 cyclone season. My first voyage was aboard S/Y Caps Tres (14m Beneteau sloop) from Fiji to Bay of Islands from 13-24 October. During this passage I stood watch, carried out deck duties including hoisting, reefing and managing sails, updated logs, performed basic maintenance and assisted in the day-to-day functioning of the yacht by preparing meals, cleaning the interior and checking safety equipment and procedures. .
Following this I was employed by Go Wild Productions assisting the owner and manager of this company to prepare their yacht, a 17 Metre Salthouse designed cutter S/Y Rory Mhor for a similar voyage. I commenced working on 2 November 2018 in Fiji completing a general overhaul including paint and antifoul, as well as victualling and bunkering for the voyage. The passage to NZ began on 15 November 2018 and we arrived in Opua on 23 November. On arrival in NZ I assisted the owner to move sails to storage and secure the vessel pending its sale during the coming summer. My contract with Go Wild Productions expired on 19th December 2018.
Over the Christmas and New Year period I took time away to attend to some family matters. From February 2018 to August 2018 I was employed by Blue Lagoon - South Sea Cruises as a cadet deck hand on MV Fiji Princess, a boutique cruise vessel owned and operated by Blue Lagoon Cruises based in Nadi, Fiji. I work 3:1 roster with three weeks on board and one week time off ashore. Fiji Princess is owned and operated by Blue Lagoon Cruises and operates within Fiji coastal waters, primarily in the Yasawa Islands but with occasional cruises to the Lau Islands and Lomaiviti. I worked as both a deck hand and watchkeeper, and also as a service steward when guests were aboard. I regularly stood watch, assisted in anchoring and mooring, and participated in navigation and voyage planning with the deck officers, as well as undertaking routine polishing, cleaning, painting etc. etc. as required. Most recently I was hired as a crew aboard a 24m sailing catamaran for a delivery from Port Denarau to Nuku’alofa (Tonga).
