Operations Manager; 01/2016-07/2017

I added value by making tough decisions like selling vehicles, revamping routes, and laying off staff/vehicles to improve the efficiency of hardship-facing family business while finishing my Miami degree locally under a special petition.

To whom it may concern,

My name is Omer Eltayeb and I am a Sudanese-Ohioan born in England with a penchant for data. Growing up in an international, medical family I was ingrained in two major ideals – that we live an increasingly globally connected world and the supremacy of the scientific method. Instead of going into medical school, I opted to major in Quantitative Economics at Miami University while picking up business internships and research experience in the Human Cognition Lab within the Psychology Dept.. Along with an Arabic sequence, AISEC, President of the Middle Eastern club, and courses in MIS, senior level Anthropology, and a Senior capstone in Statistics, my undergraduate experience gave me a solid, diverse foundation to be a creative thinker in an increasingly data-driven, interconnected world. My career obsession is to deep-dive into how human systems, specifically businesses, can operate optimally and to develop a data modeling skill-set as a tool to understand those relationships.

Currently I am a graduate student in Applied Mathematics at Cleveland State, while concurrently, honing my business acumen at FirstEnergy as an analyst. Although my first job was running a small family business – providing special needs transportation for Medicare clients in Akron, my career began in IT roles where I learned about ETL and databases at a local collections company, which helped me progress into a QA role in an IT rotational program where I learned about SDLC, communicating effectively in a high-pressure corporate environment, and where I also took advantage of a free after-work programming course which gave me the skills to break into an analytics role. I found a Business Intelligence role with a wireless company which taught me a lot about BI tools (Tableau) and working in high-pressure tech environments. I built out many of the dashboards in use by leadership and added statistical rigor to their marketing analysis. After completing a few projects and a Tableau course at UC Lindner College of Business, I decided to pursue a master’s in applied Math at Cleveland State University, having obtained a new role at FirstEnergy as a Portfolio Hedging Analyst 2.

Best,

Omer Eltayeb
