Carrier Summary:

Since almost a decade, I am involved heavily in EMI Test/Measurement, Design Modifications for better EMC (FCC and CISPR) Compliances, Electronics Test/Measurement Equipment, Environmental Chambers for DME, Reliability and ALT Tests, RF Power, Sensors etc. Evaluated Ni-Cd and LiFePO4 extended temp range battery packs (~30 Wh, -20 to +500C range) for their application in outdoor emergency lights. Effective at driving projects to completion, driving changes and finding solutions to difficult technical problems.

Industrial Experience:

Sept 2010 - 25th Oct 2019: Senior Electrical Engineer at GE Current Lighting, Cleveland, OH

EMC Tests:

Tests were done using the 3 m EMC chamber of NELA Park, for FCC 15A and 15B Compliance of Outdoor / Industrial / Indoor LED fixtures.

Based on EMC Result data analysis, suggestions of modifications in design, or if not possible, addition of ferrite beads in the fixture to pass the EMC Compliance (FCC 15-A/B, CISPR).

A 3 m Radiated EMC chamber with a TESEQ LBL-611D Rod Antenna and PMM-9010F Spectrum Analyzer was used. For Conducted EMC, a LISN Box capable to deliver up to 480 V / 60 Hz (feed by a Variac Transformer) was used.

As per FCC Regulation, Radiated EMC is tested from 30 MHz to 1 GHz while Conducted EMC has 150 kHz to 30 MHz range.

Evaluated Ni-Cd and LiFePO4 extended temp range battery packs (~30 Wh, -20 to +500C range) for their application in outdoor emergency lights. Charge - discharge efficiency, Discharge Wh was measured at different temperatures and snow storm test at -30 0C was performed.

Other expertise: Solar Panel Battery charging / energy storage, Charge-Discharge remote monitoring. Helped my daughter in making a prototype and filing patent for a robust outdoor solar charger (patent published).

Electrical Parameter Measurement of LED Fixtures:

Input V, I, P, pF and THD (AC) and Output DC P, Efficiency etc., were measured routinely to prove the compliances. Cold Start (-40oC), High temperature Cutoff (> 90oC), Inrush Current was measured and 20 kV Surge test was performed on Fixture/Components. Developed a versatile and accurate inrush current measurement setup (input line Voltage: 120-480 V, 60 Hz).

Design Margin Evaluation (DME) Test:

Fixtures/Drivers DME Test was performed in the range of -40oC to 60oC and -10% to +10 % Input Voltage.

Accelerated Life Tests (ALT):

Working life of LED drivers and other components was estimated using High Temperature High Humidity (HTHH) Test at 60oC and 90% Relative Humidity. Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) with vibration was used to test the endurance of the components.

Instruments and Computer Software:

In-hand experience of Lab Test and Measurement of Electronics/Electrical instruments such as DMM, Oscilloscopes, HV, Differential and other Probes, LCR Bridges, Mega- Ohm Meters, Power analyzers, AC and DC Linear power supplies, Proximity, IR, Photo sensors, Thermocouples and IR Thermometers. Software e.g., Outlook, Microsoft Office, Auto-Cad etc.

Dec. 2009 to Sept 2010. Repair/Test Technician, MKS Instruments, Rochester, NY

Repairing and refurbishing of MRI RF Power Supplies to extend their original warranty. These pulsed power supplies produces very high RF field for MRI imaging: 63 and 43 MHz, 750W CW and 25 kW Pulsed power. RF Vector Network Analyzer was used expensively.

July 2002 to July 2009: Senior Electrical Engineer, Philips Lighting, Bath, NY

Developed Mains to 12V power electronics for Halogen and CFL-Halogen Hybrid lamp.

Developed main line voltage 30W Hard Glass Burner and optimized filled gas ratio.

Developed a RF based coil crystallization method to process the burners in vertical position.

Got Green Belt certification avoiding~300 k US$ / year cost in HID and Halogen Lamp manufacturing.

2 Patents

Jan 2001 to July 2002: PCB Assembler/Tester, Ritec Inc., Providence, RI.

In Ritec Inc, I was responsible for populating the PCB with Electronics Components (surface as well as hole mount) using hand soldering. These PCB's were then tested for its output signals. PCB was assembled in the frame with other components to make a high power variable frequency Ultra Sound Drivers.

Academic Experience:

Nov 1988 to Dec. 2000: Research Scientist: CERN, Geneva, Switzerland

Worked on a RFQ accelerator with RF –ve H ion source for generating 2 MeV neutral Hydrogen Beam for L3’s Electromagnetic Calorimeter calibration using a Li based nuclear reaction (Several Publications). Extensive experience of High Vacuum and Ultra High Vacuum Technology, Particle / Radiation detectors and associated electronics, DAQ etc.

Nov 1987-Nov 1988: Post Doc Research Scientist: Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel,

Developed Ion Beam Nuclear Reaction Analysis: [2H(3He,4He)1H] based technique for profiling interfaces of deuterated and normal polymeric layers. (Several publications).

March 1983 – Dec. 1983 : Visiting Scientist : University of Padua, Italy. Studied Tribology of Nitrogen Beam Implanted metals.

July 1981- Feb. 1983 : Research Fellow, B.H.U., India: Ion Implantation (Proton beam) induced gas evaluation and analysis of space applicable polymers like Mylar, Kapton etc. Ion Implantation induced gases were analyzed using a Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA).

Education:

Master and Ph.D. in Physics (Thin Film PVD) from Banaras Hindu University, India. Alloy film was PV deposited evaporating metallic elements separately, detecting their intensity by RGA.
