Commandant & Training Coordinator, 2016 – 2019

Serve as a critical control point in directing 14 tactical officers on mitigating the existence of jail/courthouse emergencies and implementing riot management strategies ensuring delivery of a unified message across all divisions. Promoted to General Instructor/Training Coordinator based on completion of 40-hour basic law enforcement training including, tactical defense, Asp, baton use, Taser, pepper spray training, active shooter training, principles of emotional intelligence, officer engagement in the community, principles of communication, as well as specific Department of Corrections courses to include physical fitness, subject control, crisis management, and Krav Maga. Upload and facilitate virtual lessons, set up learning portals and online videos, and closeout employee access for departed staff. Define procedures and protocols in line with North Carolina Justice Academy while producing Department of Corrections training sessions. Launch development and training courses, outreach, communication, and initiatives to successfully position staff to overcome learning management system challenges using ERIMS.

Spearheaded the implementation of an innovative project that enabled the certification of 475 staff members in intermediate and advanced detention/deputy officer functions.

Maximized the percentage of officers certified from 15% to 60%, an all-time high among all counties and in excess of American Corrections Association requirements.

Trained DART officers on Krav Maga and tactical response; verified certification of DART Tactical officers in various courses such as riot control, tactical offense, pepper ball gun usage, subject control, and Krav Maga fighting style.

Delivered effective training to the field staff of North Carolina Justice Training Academy regarding new policing methods, testing measures, parameter assessment, and degrees of emotional intelligence.

Direct Action Response Team (DART) Officer Team Leader, 2010 – 2014

Managed the success of 12 direct reports while mentoring team on handling extraction procedure, movement, and transportation of inmates along with addressing medical emergencies and the threat of violence in the courthouse. Detention Officer, 2008 – 2010

Conducted 24/48 rounds in a 12-hour period; 2 to 4 jail perimeter rounds per hour. Operated control rooms and monitored access gates, cameras, alarms, video terminals, and control panels in response to audio and visual cues.

Consistently facilitated reductions in inmate disturbances/incidents to increase safety; managed between 55 to 97 low to maximum security inmates and engaged in the special management of high-level criminals.
