SUMMARY STATEMENT
I bring to your organization research, technical and management experience of 25 years in the field of biochemistry research. My passion for research and vast experience in training others in the academic setting as well as industry is at the core of who I am. I have technical and troubleshooting skills seldom found in bench scientists. My experiences are detailed below, and I look forward to bringing my expertise to your organization.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

Extensive background in protein work.
Mastery of many forms of protein expression and purification.
Self motivated professional capable of working independently or in a team environment.
EDUCATION
Graduate course work – Southern Illinois University, 1997-1998
Bachelor of Arts –Biological Sciences- Southern Illinois University, 1992
Associate in Science and Associate in Arts – Olney Central College, 1989
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
[ 2014-Present ] MD Anderson Cancer Center Smithville, TX
Laboratory Manager
Trained and supervised other researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate student workers in the lab. Maintained supplies for the operation of the lab. Managed the accounts used in purchasing. Maintained and repaired equipment used in our research.
Interacting with vendors and maintaining contacts for all the items we need for research in the lab
Maintained laboratory compliance with regulatory groups on campus and in Houston.
Conduct ongoing research projects in the laboratory and consult and give insight into any and all projects currently underway.
Plan and organize laboratory locations and resources as personal graduate and move on and new members join the research group.
Purified protein complexes on large scale from Yeast used in laboratory research. Purified proteins for use in collaboration projects for CXMS projects and performed CXMS experiments for publications. Created and purified large scale homogeneous Carrier DNA substrates used in lab. Created and purified truncated protein constructs to examine potential protein protein interactions by specific domains of remodeling complex subunits. Studied both structure and function of an array of chromatin remodeling complexes. Have studied the domains of those complexes and how they function and interact with substrate and in autoregulation of complexes. Have created modified histone octamers to study the structure and potential elasticity of the octamer structure and its implications in chromatin arrangement in the cell along with chromatin composition.
[ 2009-2014 ] Southern Illinois University Carbondale, IL
Laboratory Manager
Trained and supervised other researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate student workers in the lab. Maintained supplies for the operation of the lab. Managed the accounts used in purchasing. Maintained and repaired nearly all equipment used in our research.
Interacting with vendors and maintaining contacts for all the items we need for research in the lab
[ 2007-2009 ] Gardner Denver Quincy, IL
Supervisor Technical Support
Provided field service and in house technical support for Gardner Denver Service department. Specialized in Reciprocating product lines for several niche market groups such as the PET industry and locomotive industry. Taught field service training courses. Provided support for field service technicians. I was promoted to the supervisor of the service training center in 2009 and oversaw the training center expansion project to house the new product groups acquired by Gardner Denver. Designed complete course work for training courses. Worked with other entities to improve products. Supervised the cylinder wall inspection project. Interviewed prospective employees. Trained field service technicians that came into the department and technicians from companies acquired by Gardner Denver. Assisted in maintaining the field service technician schedule. I maintained the service schedule calendar to insure proper maintenance items were quoted for each scheduled maintenance. During my time in the service department at Gardner Denver I developed the ability to discuss and teach complex topics to other professionals or those outside the field.
[ 1992-2007 ] Southern Illinois University Carbondale, IL
Researcher III
Trained and supervised other researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate student workers in the lab. Maintained supplies for the operation of the lab. Managed the accounts used in purchasing. Maintained and repaired nearly all equipment used in our research. Train incoming graduate students and other researchers in the use of the lab equipment. I am the first point of contact for all equipment malfunctions within the department. I coordinate with the vendor for repairs of the equipment. I have developed large-scale fermenter systems used in cell culture for both yeast and bacteria, involving agitation, temperature regulation and aeration. Placed orders and maintained accounts with the scientific vendors.
I have studied management skills which is valuable in any work environment. This has allowed me to be a trusted adviser and resource for daily operations within the lab. I have had a great attendance record in all my years of employment from early high school through college to my present job of over 12 years. My strong work ethic in the past has helped me to obtain jobs later so I know the value of doing the job right. As a researcher, I have to be able to daily diagnose what is going on in a sub microscopic environment of molecular machines and get them to do what I need them to do. I am a thinker and problem solver and know the value of the ability to find answers to the day’s questions.
