Profile
Mogammad Ashraf Isaacs has 30 years teaching experience. He started his teaching career at a primary school in a community that was socio economically very challenged by factors such as unemployment and drug abuse to mention but a few. Here he taught Afrikaans, English and Natural Sciences to grades 4 to 7 learners. Despite the difficult background his learners were enduring he made them rise above those daily challenges. He continued his love for teaching at a high school in Manenberg where he as teacher encountered learners who daily faced challenges like gangsterism, drug and physical abuse. Here at high school he taught Natural Sciences to grades 8 and 9 and Biology to grade 10 where class sizes ranged from 45 to 50 learners per class. Ashraf was instrumental in assisting with discipline amongst the grade 8 to 10 learners.
Though he faced many challenges teaching in Manenberg he never gave up hope on touching the lives of his learners. After the 1994 elections he taught Natural Sciences to Xhosa speaking learners whose understanding of English was minimal. Though difficult at the start, he persevered with the result that his top achievers in Natural Sciences were his Xhosa speaking learners. He created a safe teaching environment where learners could excel in what they did and not be afraid of failure. Ashraf made his learners believe that it is through failure that we improve oneself as human beings.
