Key Projects

Design, development and testing of Electronic control of Small Turbofan Engine

The main objective of this project is to develop an Electronic Control Unit for a Small Turbofan Engine, which constitutes the main computational hardware of the propulsion system and provides necessary engine start-up operational logics to activate engine mounted pyro devices and fuel control schedules in accordance with engine cyclogram built in software. The digital electronic control (DEC) unit of Small Turbofan Engine is an indigenized power plant to provide autonomous control and monitoring of propulsion system for Cruise missile.

Responsibilities handled:

●Analyze the functional behavior using Matlab to demonstrate that the design meets the functional requirements.

●Development of the checkout system for Digital Engine Control Unit for checking Analog and Digital I/Os using Labview.

●Ground level Integration testing of prototype Engine controller for Small Turbofan Engines realized using CPCI platform.

●Configuring of Digital Electronic Control monitoring system.

●Assigned the tasks of verifying and checking the proper functionality of the engine while in test.

Design and development of Electronic control of a core Gas Turbine Engine

Kaveri Engine is configured with a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC). Engine is configured with the dual redundant FADEC system which provides the engine operation in its operating envelope which comprises of a digital computer called Electronic Engine Control Unit and its related accessories which control all aspects of a gas turbine engine performance. Kaveri Gas Turbine Engine shall be used to power the Light Combat Aircraft.

Responsibilities handled:

●Configuring the Digital Electronic Control monitoring system for engine testing.

●Verification and validation of controller test data after each engine test by plotting its respective parameters and Creating build tree from System Problem Report.
