JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND FUNCTIONS OF A NURSE EDUCATOR: The Related Learning Experience (RLE) is the practicum component of the revised BSN curriculum. It includes all activities undertaken to complement and supplement classroom instruction and which will bring about desirable changes as well as develop the competencies in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes. To insure that the RLE component is carried out effectively, the RLE faculty are expected to plan, organize, implement and evaluate selected learning experiences that enhance meaningful learning both in and out of the classroom. The faculty shall utilize all the resources in the community or institution particularly the various health agencies and must exert efforts to supervise and follow-up the students in the selected area for practicum. This responsibility may necessitate going on evening and night shifts, working on weekends on the designated area of exposure.

GENERAL:

1. Supervises the clinical instruction Related Learning Experience of BSN students integrating the various nursing concepts discussed in the Professional Nursing course. 2. Effectively make use of an appropriately selected Related Learning Experiences by the College of Nursing in the hospital and community setting that will result in the changes of behavior of the students.

SPECIFIC:

1. Conduct lecture for nursing professional subjects. 2. Prepares Resource Units and Course Outline before the start of the lecture and Related Learning Experience schedule.

3. Conducts orientation for students at the start of an RLE shift in the Clinical area and community setting.

4. Submits a plan of schedule of clinical activities weekly to the clinical coordinator. 5. Conducts pre and post conferences to individuals or groups of students at least once every shift. 6. Conducts case presentation, ward classes, and bedside clinics to enrich Related Learning Experience.

7. Performs complicated nursing procedures for the benefit of the students and safety of the patients through demonstration in skills laboratory and in the actual hospital setting. 8. Checks documentation of students on the patient’s chart which includes: Nurse’s Notes, Medication sheet, Treatment Record, and Kardex.

9. Coordinates with physicians and staff nurses for any problem in the care of the patients. 10. Check requirements of every student such as Nursing History, Physical Assessment, Drug Study/Literature, Readings related to patients current conditions/health problems. 11. Assess each student through oral examination of nursing procedures to be performed. 12. Assess student’s performance of various nursing procedures done to each patient. 13. Evaluate student’s over-all performance at the end of every 8-hour shift. 14. Submits grades in the classroom and Related Learning Experience to the level team chairman at the specified time frame.
