Leadership Compass

(Philosophy)

Mike McGee

I have developed this leadership philosophy from experiences gained from interacting with both good and bad leaders throughout my career. I have experience in many areas including retail, warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing in wide ranging industries including automotive, industrial appliance and aerospace. I will adhere to this philosophy in both work and non-work environments. I ask that you hold me accountable and advise me if you see me begin to drift.

My Philosophy on Leadership:

Honesty and Integrity should drive all interactions and decisions.

Good, dependable data is key.

Leadership is not ordering others around it is gathering information from the team, discussing alternatives and making informed decisions based on this input.

Who 1 Aspire to Be:

Honesty and Integrity — I will be honest in all that I do. However, there may be times that I may be privy to information that cannot be shared.

Supportive — I will be supportive of my team members and value their input.

Data Driven — I will base decisions on data.

Feedback — I will make sure that decisions are accompanied by data based feedback to the team. I will praise in public and discuss improvement opportunities in private.

Motivation —I will find out what motivates team members and let you know what motivates me.

What I Expect from Team Members:

Honesty and Integrity — Be honest in all you do. NO SECRETS

Respect — Treat everyone with respect and courtesy.

Data Driven — Have supporting data when you come to me with something.

Procrastination - Don't wait. If it needs done, do it.

Solutions — Don't just point out problems. Offer solutions.

Communication — We are bombarded by communication in today's world, please make sure that you include me on important communications, but if you can take care of it without my involvement, do it. I trust you. We are all busy, if it is extremely important, GET MY ATTENTION. Tell me when you require my undivided attention.

What I will not Tolerate:

I will not tolerate lying, cheating or stealing.

I will not tolerate treating others disrespectfully. Co-workers are people with feelings.

If you make a mistake (or perceived mistake), stand up and admit it. We all make mistakes. We can address the potential issue better right now rather than finding out later.

Don't talk behind peoples' backs. If you cannot say it to their face, then don't say it at all.

I truly believe if we treat each other with respect, act with urgency when appropriate, look for solutions, and use data to drive decisions, we can create an atmosphere of success and enjoyment.
