HIL Testing for Configurable Hybrid Electric Learning Module (CHELM) Using MBD, Houghton MI (Jan 2019 – June 2019)

• Designed a closed loop control strategy using Stateflow and MotoHawk which determines the Torque Blending between IC engine and E-motor based on controller and Electronic Control Unit (ECU 565-128).

• Accelerator pedal position, Engine start/stop system, E-motor start/stop system, Battery SOC, Vehicle Speed, Torque blending strategy and Stepper motor were the key control feature.

• Controlled the stepper motor to operate the Electronic Throttle Body as per the Accelerator pedal command using PWM signals. Remote Closed-Loop Electronic Throttle Controller Using Automotive ECU, Houghton MI (Jan 2019 – June 2019)

• Managed and executed the process of vehicle logger data acquisition/storage on a frequent basis for the vehicle using ECU 565-128.

• Performed run testing on HIL rigs for optimal control gains for calibration parameters and performed ECU flashing for the controller.

• Performed the electrical wiring for the ECUs and examined in-vehicle CAN communication protocol and modules.

• Established the CAN communication between two ECUs where ECU1 provides PWM for the ETB based on the inputs on remote ECU2.

• Designed the automatic speed control system based on the ADAS sensors and distance between two vehicles by using Arduino.

• Developed dynamic system and parameter estimation model for the given frequency domain system by filtering out the different noises.

• Regulated the states by using LQR optimal control law and obtained optimal feedback gain matrix for the given system in MATLAB.

• Simulated the system with a Discrete Kalman Filter, designing and tuning of the LQR controller and closed-loop control. Battery & Motor Sizing Based on Optimized Control Strategy for PHEV/EV, Houghton MI (Sept 2018 – Dec 2018)

• Optimized the control strategy for AER and MPGe for different drive cycles like FTP-75, US-06, HWFET and NEDC using AMEsim.

• Sized the motor/generator 1 and 2 and Lithium-Ion battery based on the dynamic performance required and the given Engine BSFC curve.

• Developed MATLAB/Simulink model of an H(EV) by including driver controller, motor, battery, vehicle dynamics & power electronics.
