I am the Facility Manager for an Animal Research Building. I oversee the Maintenance & Operations of the facility, ensure that renovations being done are coordinated with customers in building & contractors, respond to all emergency operations on a 24/7 basis. Maintenance Mechanic Leader (This is a federal job) Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

I am the Work Leader for BSL-3 high containment facility; I assign work orders to Maintenance Mechanics & Electricians for the maintenance & repair of the facility.Perform quarterly generator testing on building electrical systems, do monthly checks on mechanical systems(AHUs,ExFans,Steam Stations),daily checks of SIEMENS building automation system. Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

I currently possess a Level 5 Public Trust security clearance and a select agent clearance. I have a Class-B CDL License

Since Jan 2007 I have learned to operate and maintain AHU's,Exhaust fans, pumps, and steam stations. While on shift I discovered the pre-heats were down in bldg. 50; upon investigating I found the Vibration hub to the pre-heat pump had blown out. I valved it off, shut down the VFD, refilled the glycol system, started another pre-heat pump and had the system back up to all 9 AHU without losing 1 preheat coil. In bldg. 33 I found the lo-steam pressure down and restored steam to all AHU and animal facility.

In my current position I am responsible for checking all mechanical room equipment respond to service calls and ensure all equipment is operating properly in 9 different buildings. I respond to service orders from the CMMS system, determine exactly what the customer wants and make necessary adjustments and repairs. I am experienced in use of the Siemens Building Management System for monitoring room temperature and neg/pos air flow. Technical practices: When responding to a temperature call I check the BAS system, go to the room and take ambient temp, supply temp, and exhaust temp.; I then check to see if the reheat valve is operating properly and if the RPC is working and perform necessary repairs. I contact Siemens if it is a control issue. Measuring Instruments: I use temperature guns, ambient temp read-outs, rulers, gages, thermometers, readouts in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. I must be able to convert the two.

Ability to Interpret Instruction: Working with air balancing company,I had to locate proper blueprints to find room and mixing box location, and original specifications for air flow, pressure CFM and changes.

Use & Maintain Tools & Equipment: I am experienced in Oxyacetylene welding, cutting, brazing & soldering, GTAW welding of ferrous & non-ferrous metals and precious metals;SMAW of various metals.I have used grinders, shears, brakes, rollers, sanders, bead blasters, acid cleaning tanks, tubing/pipe cutters/threaders. Knowledge of Materials: I use black pipe, brass/bronze fittings, copper and PVC piping.I select the gasket material and RTV silicon.Determine type of filters, oil, grease needed for equipment.

Knowledge of Equipment Assembly,Installation,Repair: I have rebuilt recirculating pumps, replaced belts and aligned shivs on AHU's, ensured pre-heats and chill water coils are operating correctly; worked with contractor in repair of steam generator, pressure checking tubes . When a mechanical failure does occur,I must determine the cause, contain the problem, and make necessary repairs and notify essential personnel of the problem/corrective action. In the Air Force I was Asst. Branch Chief over structural/sheetmetal shop,N.D.I.labs, machine shop, metals processing/welding shop, corrosion control/paint shop, parachute/fabrication shop and have a working knowledge of each trade.
