RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Siegel, Barnett & Schutz – Aberdeen, SD 4/2018 – 7/2018

Clerk

I was charged with the general research for any legal questions awaiting attorney analysis. This included research on law pertaining to the areas of criminal matters, real estate, contract, tax, business licenses, and business formation.

I wrote inter-office memos containing developments on current case files. In addition, I wrote several legal briefs involving the defense of clients in several criminal matters.

My firm was assigned criminal defendants who did not have a personal attorney and I was required to visit the various clients. Once there, I gathered their information, the charges and answered basic questions relating to their representation by the firm. Once back at the firm, I relayed the information back to the assigned attorney and provided my opinion of the case.

LaBine Law Firm – Grand Forks, ND 2/2017 – 12/2017

Clerk

I conducted research on personal injury matters for Mr. LaBine. I utilized Lexis Nexis in conducting research on Minnesota and North Dakota case law.

A large part of my duties involved writing demand letters to insurance agencies. The demand letters included the facts of the case, relevant case/statutory law and our conclusion. Finally, I presented an amount in which I (pending the approval of Mr. LaBine) felt was a satisfactory amount of compensation for our client.

Northeastern Mental Health Center – Grand Forks, ND 12/2014 – 1/2016

Data Analyst

I created audit reports from scratch which reviewed clinician treatment of center clients. The state required treatment to satisfy certain requirements. Every three months, I went through a percentage of the caseload for each counselor and looked for required actions.

I worked with the CEO and various staff to roll out the Home Health Program. This strategy was designed to serve clients who had trouble making it to the center and required attention at home. I monitored the results and presented monthly findings to the center’s leadership.

South Dakota Legislature – Pierre, SD 1/2013 – 3/2013

Intern

I conducted research on all bills presented before the Senate and House bills awaiting Senate review. Depending on the scope of the bill, I created a cost-benefit analysis of the legislation and presented my findings to the committee leaders.

At the start of the legislative term, I was assigned one senator to assist in writing weekly newsletters and monitor social media accounts. It was my duty to present the current activities of the Legislature to my assigned senator’s constituents. By the end of the term, I took on the same duties for two more senators.

United States Senate – John Thune – Washington, D.C. 5/2011 – 7/2011

Extern

As a group, the other externs and myself created a index book including all amendments proposed, rejected, tabled, and accepted to the U.S. Farm Bill.

I gave educational tours of capitol grounds to any South Dakota Constituent who visited the Thune office. In addition, I assisted in fielding incoming calls from constituents and other concerned parties.
