Duties: I assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. I assist in the areas of Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, OBGYN, Podiatry, ENT, and General surgery. Prior to operation, I prepare the operating room by arranging the OR to be used, setting up the back table, and retaining all necessary surgical instruments, supplies and equipment, while protecting and maintaining the sterile field. Assemble of both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as check and a just equipment and instrumentation to ensure all is working properly. I assist the OR nurse in preparing patients for surgery if necessary. After OR preparation I gown and glove the surgeon and his assistance for surgery. During surgical procedures, I pass instruments and other surgical supplies to the surgeon while all the while anticipating the surgeon’s needs. I hold retractors, cut suture, and count6 sponges, needles, other supplies and instruments. I operate steam sterilizers, and utilize the decontamination room for instrument decontamination, utilize prep room for setting up and wrapping future instruments to be used. After the procedure I clean and restock the OR to setup for the next procedure.
