RESEARCH STATEMENT OF M.E. THESIS WORK
Hybrid rockets are third type of rocket propulsion system which contains fuel in solid state and oxidizer in gaseous state. It is advantageous because of its safety feature, throttling capacity and propellant versatility but also suffers from major disadvantages of low regression, low combustion efficiency and non-uniformity in burning. Swirl injector is one way of addressing regression and efficiency drawbacks simultaneously. But swirl injectors are not suited when L/D ratio>5 (Length of the motor/port diameter) motors because of non-uniformity in burning and swirl decaying effect. In this study, an indigenous method called Multi-location swirl injection method is created. A mid- location injector is indigenously designed and fabricated and positioned in-between high L/D ratio motor effectively reducing L/D ratio of each section. Oxidizer is supplied through both the injector and it is found that this method provides higher performance than conventional hybrid rockets. TECHNICAL SKILLS
