SHEAR BEHAVIOUR OF GFRP STRENGTHENED RECYCLED AGGREGATE CONCRETE BEAMS WITH SPIRAL TRANSVERSE REINFORCEMENT Team Size:1
Construction materials are increasingly judged by their ecological characteristics.Concrete recycling gains importance because it protects natural resources snd eliminates the need for disposal by using the readily available concrete as an aggregate source for new concrete or other applications.The states that use recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) in new concrete report that concrete with RCA performs equal to concrete with natural aggregates. The shear behavior of geopolymer concrete beams reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars and stirrups was investigated. Six short beams with a shear-span-to-effective-depth ratio (a/d) of 1.8 were cast: one with no stirrups, three with different stirrup spacing, one with less reinforcement, and one with steel stirrups. In addition, a slender beam (a/d = 4.7) with the same cross-sectional area was built to investigate the influence of a/d. Experimental results showed that the GFRP stirrups enhanced both the shear strength and deflection capacity of the beams by approximately 200%. The shear crack initiated at a higher load and with a finer crack width in the beam with narrower stirrup spacing REPLACING FINE AGGREGATES IN CONCRETE USING RECYCLED PLASTIC BAG WASTE Team Size :4
In this present study blast furnace slag from two sources were replaced with fine aggregate and the properties of concrete were studied. The optimum percentages of replacement of these materials were found out. The result obtained encourages the use of these materials as a replacement material for fine aggregate. Solid waste management systems across the world face a challenging issue of safe disposal of non-recyclable thin polythene bags.The first choice for construction in many countries is concrete,if plastics wastes can be mixed in the concrete mass in dry form,without significant change on its basic properties or slight compromise in strength,we can consume large quantities of plastic waste by mixing it in the concrete mass.
