Didactic year: Intensive study of human disease from the perspectives of epidemiology, etiology, clinical manifestations and course, diagnostic tests, treatment, and prognosis.
Clinical Experience:
Pediatrics- Pediatric and Adolescent Center Southgate (5 weeks)
Ability to perform my own pediatric history and physicals and counsel on diet and behavior.
OB-GYN- Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital- Northline Women’s Health Center (5 weeks)
Ability to perform my own gynecological history and physical exams including breast, abdominal, pelvic, and rectal examinations. Experience with fetal non-stress tests and ultrasounds. Comfortable educating patients on contraceptive options, as well as post-menopausal therapies. Assisted in procedures including: dilation and curettage, laparoscopy, endometrial ablation, endometrial biopsy, LEEP procedure, and observation of robotic hysterectomies, oophorectomies, and salpingectomies.
General Surgery- Royal Oak Beaumont (5 weeks)
Ability to write up pre and post-operative notes and perform pertinent physical examinations. I was placed on the Bariatric team, gaining skills such as pre-operative prep, suturing, retracting, and laparoscopic camera maneuvering.
Psychiatry- VA Hospital Ann Arbor (5 weeks)
Ability to comfortably perform my own interviews and mental status examinations. I had the opportunity to be a part of the inpatient mental health team, working with patients of varying psychological conditions including substance use disorders, and observed and educated patients on ECT therapy.
Family Medicine- Main Center Family Medicine (5 weeks)
Ability to perform my own histories and physicals, and experience in treating those with chronic conditions including opioid dependency. I have been educated on osteopathic manipulation, joint injections, and alternative medicine.
Dermatology- Dermatology Associates Birmingham (2 weeks)
Ability to perform my own dermatological examinations. I have had exposure to both the medicinal side of dermatology, as well as the cosmetic. I have observed small scale surgeries, cryotherapy, and skin biopsies.
Wound Care- Providence Southfield (2 weeks)
Ability to properly clean and debride wounds, while providing proper patient education on their underlying condition.
Emergency Medicine- Beaumont Farmington Hills (5 weeks)
Ability to take pertinent history and perform appropriate physical exam in the ER setting. I have experience in selecting appropriate imaging and labs. I have sutured, stapled, successfully placed an arteriole line, and assisted in putting in central lines. I have performed my own FAST ultrasound, as well as fetal ultrasounds.
Internal Medicine- Ascension St. John Hospital Detroit (5 weeks), EPIC Medical Center (5 weeks)
Able to perform a thorough history and physical and educate the patient on the importance of self- management. Ability to interpret basic radiology imaging and EKGs.
