Configuration Management Specialist/ECfM Operations

Responsible for Configuration change control and the documented process for managing and controlling changes to the configuration of an information system or its constituent Configuration Items (CIs). Configuration change control falls under the Controlling Configuration Changes phase of security-focused configuration management and supports the implementation of NIST SP 800-53 (National Institute of Standards and Technology). She is responsible for the

ECfM (Enterprise Configuration Management) process and procedures. She establishes and maintains secure information system configurations, and supports the management of security risks in information. She maintains the development of a configuration management plan which is a comprehensive description of the roles, responsibilities, policies, and procedures that apply when managing the configuration of products and systems. She participates in the configuration control board, CAB, (Change Advisor Board). Which is a group of qualified people with responsibility for the process of controlling and approving changes throughout the development and operational life cycle of products and systems. She is responsible for tracking and auditing the development of a configuration items that need to be placed under configuration management. A configuration item is an aggregation of information system components that is designated for configuration management and treated as a single entity throughout the CM process. She is responsible for tracking the baseline configuration, a set of specifications for a system, or configuration items within a system, that has been formally reviewed and agreed to, and which can be changed only through organizational change control procedures. The baseline configuration is used as a foundation for future activities such as additions and changes to the system. She aided in the development of a configuration change control process for managing updates to the baseline configurations and for the configuration items; and development of a process for configuration monitoring and reporting to assess or test the level of compliance with the established baseline configuration and mechanisms for reporting on the configuration status of items placed under configuration management. She ensured all stakeholders who are responsible for performing process procedures understand and are capable of performing their role in the process through the life cycle process. She communicates process information or changes as appropriate to ensure awareness. She interfaces with line management, ensuring that the process receives the necessary staff resources specify the criteria for determining CIs when needed. She aided in management and control of all ECfM CI documentation. Periodically she conducted reviews of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) management in order to maintain the JSP IT environment baseline list. Her role is also to performing annual configuration audits to validate the system is accurately represented in the service area Product Baselines and design and installation documentation adhering to the requirements of NIST SP 800-53 Rev 4 Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations and the NIST SP 800-128 Guide for Security-Focused Configuration Management of Information Systems as directed in the DoDI 8510.01 Risk Management Framework (RMF) for Department of Defense (DoD) IT. In doing so she utilizes CMS and Auto-discovery Tools (Remedy) (eMass) collecting CIs to discover, previews and reports the business environment to determine if there is true non-conformance. In the end she performs periodic audits of the CI to ensure compliance to policy and standards and publishes the verification and Audit Report and notifies appropriate stakeholders. She drafts Audit Report creating a risk analysis and gap analysis. She provides input to the Continuous Monitoring plan.
