HID Project Manager-Responsible for leading the integration activities for the D-2 manufacturing equipment scheduled to arrive in April 2001. This involved a 2.3 million dollar renovation of building 2 in the Hillsboro facility, which was completed on time and under budget. Executed equipment moves out of the building, constructing a new stockroom, installed new services connectors, extensive construction work, and clean room build and mezzanine construction. Decontaminated whole building of lead, installed all new HVAC units, roof penetrations, curbs and associated ductwork. Painted all ceilings and epoxied all floors. Installed new electrical busses and disconnects, rigged incoming equipment, moved to new locations, connected and supplied all services required. Re-lamped whole building and assisted with equipment debug. World-class result!

Dec 1999-2001:

Project Leader for the transfer of a Lamp making Department from the Hillsboro facility to Nove Zamky Slovakia. Engineered the successful move of 4 manufacturing lines from the Hillsboro facility to Western Europe. Scope was immense and involved training European associates on running existing equipment, dismantling said equipment, preparing equipment for overseas travel, shipping overland and reassembling in Slovakia. Traveled abroad, moved equipment into new factory location, assembled, debugged, met quality criteria and commissioned lines. Two-year project with investment in the millions. Great experience with a great end result.

May 1995-Nov 1999

Maintenance Foreman for the S-8 manufacturing area- Responsibilities were overseeing all maintenance and continuous improvement activities to revive 4 manufacturing lines that were supposed to become obsolete. Developed a PM program, database, spare parts history and new PM policy that improved equipment uptime and product quality almost immediately. Trained all support personnel on new predictive maintenance methods and managed continuous improvement projects from conception to final commissioning. Supervised, staffed, completed performance appraisals and managed a mechanical-electrical team developed budgets for spare parts and new equipment. Always worked closely with mechanical design/electrical engineering to met predetermined goals. Implemented many new devices to improve product quality and throughput. Supported plant safety with ergonomic concerns during this period as an additional responsibility.

March 1988-May-1995

Equipment Specialist for GTE now OSRAM SYLVANIA. Hired to set up a skunk’s works equipment revival program centered on process improvement, designing new devices to improve efficiency and improve equipment uptime. Set up maintenance database for routine scheduled maintenance in capsule department. This comprised 7 manufacturing lines, 2 hard glass tubing cutters and all support equipment. Ran with concepts from design through build, procurement, assembly, installation and debug. Worked across all plant functions to reduce timelines with no electrical design or mechanical design limitations. In effect any task that needed to be completed offline was fair game once approved by the manufacturing manager for said department. Work routine involved downtime planning, equipment upgrades, device design, drafting said devices, procurement of materials, machining necessary parts required, device/equipment assembly, installation and debug. Coordination with techs, design and scheduling was other key responsibility. Fabrication of sheet-metal also a necessary skill set for guarding purposes, cabinets to house electrical components, escapement chutes and product delivery schemes. Fabulous job!

Dec 1985-March 1988

Fabricator/Machine Builder for the Al Melanson Company/Kingsbury Machine. Precision Sheet Metal Job shop environment. Single contributor setting up and operating shears, deburring equipment, punch presses, band saws, press brakes, notchers, power rolls, mig and tig welders. Equipment cabinets, exhaust hoods, construction forms, rigging equipment, utility truck components, cylindrical hoppers are a sample of work done. Excellent math/layout skills can use shrink or stretch-out methods; can project any drawing to obtain true lengths, precision diameters, and angles across all materials regardless of thickness.

August 1981-Nov 1985

Shop Foreman Concise Industries Tucson Arizona-Recruited from College to find suitable location and set up precision sheet-metal shop, assisted with site recommendation, power distribution, equipment purchases, facilities services, equipment layout and installation, paint line installation, hiring associates and every day production requirements. Job shop environment building mostly mainframes for the computer industry, United technologies, Hughes aircraft, Gates Learjet, IBM to name a few.
