KEVIN AVERY ABEL
QA Automation Enthusiast
Script developer and framework architect for more than twenty years. I have mostly used tools from Micro Focus such as QTP and UFT. Recently I had the opportunity to work with Tricentis TOSCA and found it to be another powerful tool. I’m consistently taking training from private tutors, Edureka! Udemy and Tricentis. I knew the tools well enough that in some areas I mentored others. I’m accustomed to both waterfall and agile methodologies. I often accept work on a project basis which is reflected in my resume. I am open to working as an employee with benefits and also as a consultant. I attempt to maintain a couple of main strengths such as Tosca, UFT and Selenium. I also stay involved with many other aspects of QA automation technology such as SQL and load testing. I took off from work from September 2018 until March 2019 to assist elders in my family while I investigated new technologies. A word that describes me is: extremophile. I have been known to thrive in severe project conditions in which most others could not survive.

QA AUTOMATION TOOL SELECTION
Today there are many automation test tools and management methodologies to select from. Popular tools are open source and upfront-free but also have limitations such as only working inside of a browser, having to located each object locator manually, needing to hire another layer of expert developers, and not having customer support. Once popular licenced products are expensive and have not technologically kept up. Some products are medium priced and technically wonderful, easier to use by both business and technical roles but they are not popular and it is difficult to find talent to use them. I have worked with many companies on the selection process. I have entered work environments where the tools were selected but not working as well as they expected so I found ways to greatly improve their situation. In each position contained in my resume I have been involved in being an advisor in these decisions.
OPEN SOURCE KNOWLEDGE
I know and use concepts from Java such as Classes, Objects, Instantiation, Abstraction, Encapsulation, Polymorphism, and Variable types, Error Handling, Using Selenium with Java, Cucumber and SoapUI. This knowledge comes from working with tutors for Core Java and also for training with Selenium. My IDE of choice is Eclipse. I have a strong training background with open source and I’m eager to use my knowledge on a project.

SQA Specialist Contractor September 2019 – November 2019
Client needed a way to launch and retrieve results from Micro Focus ALM. Coded solution in a mixture of ALM setup, UFT, .BAT file and selenium setup and coding in Java. The solution required me to work with Orasi UFT Support and my network of expertise in Selenium
Reviewing and updating manual scripts while simultaneously converting them to automation using standards of an existing UFT Test Harness.
Upgraded and documented changes in the existing UFT test harness. Providing recommendations based on the overall strengths and weaknesses of the Harness. Coverage was for the overall design down to the details of the library and calling code.
Rebuilt hardware and software setup in the Lab consisting of a bank of Laptops.
Bank of America, Charlotte, NC
Software QA Analyst March 2019 – July 2019
I was shown an overview of the suite of tests that needed to be automated and given the choice of using UFT/ALM, Selenium OR Tricentis Tosca. I used my experience, knowledge and exploration to decide that Tosca was the best choice. Tosca is designed to work like frameworks I have built using UFT but everything is graphical and integrated in one tool and is 99% code free.
Passed SA1 and SA2 Tricentis Tosca Training Classes to gain access to Bank of America’s Tosca shared working area.
Designed and coded a detailed End to End Automation test used for moving documentation through fourteen levels of authorization. My subject matter collection experience, general automation concepts, and Tricentis Certifications combined were valuable.
A Table Constraint Tosca Feature did not work for locating rows of data with specific qualifications in the type of Table in the System under Test (SUT). I wrote a complex loop with conditions to locate rows with matching qualifiers.
My experience allowed me to realize that testing for related conditions in an Excel Report had commonality to the table search. I reused a portion of the Test Script and Modules along with new code to produce a robust solution. I did a walk through with a Subject Matter Expert for the SUT and used their input to improve the performance by a factor of six. I am promoting moving to the next version of TOSCA quickly because it will offer another factor of ten times with the new Tbox Excel built in Modules.

Different uncoupled coding styles were in place making it impossible for the developers to reuse and share code. I resolved the style issue by discussing a common work style until we all agreed on a set of standards.
