My area of work was in Heavy Oil & Gas Business Unit, in Lloydminster, Alberta & Saskatchewan, for Cold Primary and Thermal.
Within the team I gave geological drilling operations support to the area geologists and engineers.
Also worked closely with drilling and regulatory on a daily basis for licensing information, and the drilling rig schedule and drilling information for operations.
Write up and send out well programs by emails to our well-site supervisors and well-site geologists; this consists of me gathering data and information from the geological prognosis; Well View, APPIAN, Site View and communicating with the area geologists and engineers to validate accurate information on drilling their locations. This would generally consist of the well license, surveys, directional programs, drilling stick diagram, re-confirm logging information, lease cut/fill info, samples/coring requirements and whether or not a well-site geologist is required; offset logs and cross sections from the area geologists, and any other information that may be of importance for the field staff.
Check the drilling stick diagram against the geological prognosis, survey, well license, preliminary formations and directional programs (if it’s a directional well); to ensure that all information from these various sources match with each other.
Order geological supplies (i.e. bags/vials for drill cuttings that may be required by the board or company).
Address inquires from the field in a timely fashion and well versed with rig scheduling, timing and requirements of drills.
Coordinate well-site geologists for work, from geological consulting companies.
Strong communication skills and excellent working relationships with vendors, field and office staff.
Promote safety culture to field staff.
Make recommendations if operational procedures are miss-aligned (i.e. if wells are too deviated for wire-line pressure tests. If Gamma at bit may be required, to better tie-in coring information. If TD over hole is inadequate for acquiring logging information. Depending on the design or angle of a well, check with the wire line Sales Rep, what tools may or may not be best for type well.
