Working with a mostly remote team to troubleshoot and resolve ServiceNow incident tickets placed globally within the company. The environment consists of 1,000’s of servers. The OS platforms are AIX, RedHat and Solaris.

City of Phoenix, Phoenix AZ March 2015 – February 2019

Lead IT Systems Specialist, Information Technology Services (ITS)

Summary – 3yrs 11 months supporting and maintaining the City of Phoenix AIX/SAP environment, totaling 80+ servers. Lead member of Information Technology Services (ITS) department which is comprised of AIX, Solaris, Redhat Linux, Oracle Exalogic, SAN, Backup and Recovery and Enterprise monitoring which provides support for the entire City of Phoenix.

Delegate of Authority - Served as business manager’s delegate during absences or approved vacation on multiple occasions. During these opportunities I have received positive feedback from both business managers that they received from our teams as well as our Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO).

Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) – Drafted initial Service Level Agreements regarding the Oracle Exalogic platform, its customers, and those responsible for its maintenance and administration.

Exalogic Platform – Completed training for Oracle Exalogic platform. Worked with team staff as platform was transitioned to our team for administration and mgmt.

SAP RedHat migration – Worked with appropriate staff as new SAP servers have been created in the Enterprise Cisco UCS/VMWare/RedHat environment.

SAP DR Solution – Worked with appropriate SAP team members to implement a temporary disaster recovery solution until a decision could be made on a permanent platform for SAP backup and recovery.

Training and Orientation – Assumed primary responsibility for training and orientation of new team member as part of Shared Services initiatives. Completed orientation, training that included IT specific processes, business partners, and detailed knowledge of infrastructure of SAP server Systems. Team member was able to assume all routine support tasks and demonstrate full understanding of system operations.

City Bank Transactions – Coordinated and assumed primary responsibility for all City Bank transaction services. Worked with appropriate staff on knowledge transfer and documentation. In addition I also supported SAP/OpenText servers.

System Inventory – Lead initiative to decommission and remove legacy hardware from the city data center and update inventory records. Coordinated efforts with several team members to complete the effort on time and without disruption. This allowed for proper planning of replacing the fiber channel switch network.

System Security – Implemented multiple changes to bring AIX/SAP systems into compliance with City IT Security standards such as patch mgmt. processes and updating security configurations regarding passwords and access mgmt.

Security Baseline – Created documentation and best practices for upgrading and securing AIX operating system.

City of Phoenix, Phoenix AZ June 9, 2014 – March 2015

Sr. IT Systems Specialist, Information Technology Services (ITS)

Summary – 10 months supporting and maintaining the City of Phoenix AIX/SAP environment, totaling 80+ servers. Member of Information Technology Services (ITS) department which was comprised of AIX, Solaris, Linux, SAN, Virtualization, Enterprise messaging and monitoring, providing support for the entire City of Phoenix.

Legacy Network Migration – Planned, executed and completed migration of all AIX/SAP servers from previous unsecure network to new network infrastructure behind data center firewalls.

AIX upgrades – Completed AIX TL upgrades (TL2) across all 80+ SAP servers. Upgrades were needed to address security audit. No issues or complications were encountered.

SNMP remediation – Completed correction of SNMP configuration on all AIX servers to facilitate enterprise monitoring by SolarWinds Orion and Splunk Applications. Finalized procedure for future use and knowledge base.

AIX Assessment – Compiled a report on current state of the entire AIX environment. Reported my findings and recommended changes/modifications based on previous corporate experience and current IT best practices.

AIX security Assessment – Compiled a report of current state of security within AIX environment. Report recommended changes/modifications for security and OS hardening such as restricting access to root, removing vulnerable accounts and disabling unsecure system services.

Security Advisory and System Information – Initiated and Implemented the City of Phoenix advisory statement banner for all AIX/SAP servers. In addition, created an additional system header displaying basic yet important system server information useful to an administrator, particularly for troubleshooting and incident mgmt.

Shared Services Team Member – Initiative based on Federal government Shared Services model. Purpose of team was to assess and recommend changes to consolidate IT resources from up to 26 city departments into the ITS department.

Sr. Unix Administrator, Mid-Range Services

Summary - 4+ years supporting corporate Unix/Linux environment. Member of Mid-Range services group consisting of Unix, Linux, SAN, TSM and Mainframe groups. The UNIX environment consisted of over 400 servers at various levels of AIX (6.1 to 7.1) with over 25% supporting SAP applications. The Linux environment is roughly a 50/50 mix of Redhat (5.7 - 6.3) and SUSE Linux (SLES 11) amounting to 50+ servers.

Disaster Recovery - Lead Unix Team efforts in biannual disaster recovery testing. Coordinate all validation and scheduling efforts with Data Center management and preferred vendor (SunGard). Ensure that all recovery procedures and server resources are updated and accurate on a quarterly basis. Coordinate with Unix, SAN, and TSM teams to assure 100% readiness. Act as primary contact for Unix matters during testing and, assess and determine solutions for issues that were encountered. Update documentation and processes accordingly based on test results.

Work ticket coordination - Guide and assist the Unix team in the tracking and prompt resolution of all service, incident, and change tickets. Maintain ticket SLA's and review weekly reports from Process Management team. Coordinate and attend weekly meetings to address tickets. Facilitate change management work for other application teams and their management.

Test Lab - Manage and maintain Unix Test Lab. Field all requests for test lab resources. Build and maintain all requested servers and proof of concepts. Negotiate with SAN and application teams to ensure proper builds. Assist application teams with any additional configuration, troubleshooting and support. Re-claim all resources when client has completed project.

CA Workload Automation (Autosys) - Act as lead coordinator for the implementation and support of 2 application life-cycles of CA Workload Automation (also known as Autosys). Responsible for initial server builds (AIX 6.1, 7.1), installation and configuration of the application software. Assist and support advanced configuration, testing and problem resolution. Implement new application servers into their respective test and production environments. Serve as Unix team SME for all Autosys related issues, concerns and maintenance. Initiate and support application/server decommissioning. Facilitate all change management and documentation efforts throughout version life-cycles.

Server upgrades and migrations - Manage and coordinate server upgrades, NIMADM migrations to AIX 7.1, and hardware refreshes for the ESM (Enterprise Services Systems Mgmt.) team. These application servers were focused on network and server monitoring, alerting and data gathering tools, which utilized IBM, DB2, and Tivoli products. This was an on-going project that included improvements to hardware, OS, SAN storage device drivers (sdd), VIO and firmware. Head coordination efforts with multiple infrastructure and application teams to complete work in a timely manner while mitigating risk and minimizing downtime.

Unix Group Audit - Direct and complete the bi-annual auditing of all Unix groups. Meet and discuss with all infrastructure and application team management to validate all Unix groups and their associated service and user accounts. With consultation from app team mgmt., confirm and coordinate all updates and expedite the removal of any groups/accounts no longer in use.

Off-hours tracking - With the Unix team, track and coordinate all off-hours and weekend work. Report any activity to management at weekly scheduled time. Include and inform any additional support teams that may be affected or needed for additional efforts.

Unix Team Support - Aid and assist Unix team with any and all support efforts to preserve a high quality, 24/7 production Unix environment. Work closely with all IT related teams, such as Database or SAP, to address and resolve all matters in a prompt and efficient manner. Keep management updated and informed of progress through daily and weekly reporting, meetings or discussions. Take part in on-call rotation. Maintain 24/7/365 availability.

Unix Engineer, Unix Run team (contracted by TEK Systems)

*Note that environment consisted of AIX 5.3, HPUX 11, RHEL4 and 5 Operating Systems.

Enterprise Server Standardization - On-going project which validated standard server build through automated scripts and manual verification for corporate IT/SOX standards before being released into production environment. Diligent communication efforts between cross site and functional teams ensured that servers met all requirements including, system health, secure access, documentation, backup and recovery, configuration and monitoring.

Patrol 3.6 Deployment - Standardized the Enterprise monitoring package by creating new file systems so that Patrol 3.6 can be installed. Created single script for AIX, HP, RHEL, to create new file systems that met the requirements for Patrol 3.6 installation, along with stopping and removing previous version (Patrol 3.4). Script was deployed via Opsware to over 2000 corporate PRD/QA servers. Served as primary support for analyzing and resolving any and all deployment issues.

Informix Decommission - Halt and remove old instances of Informix database. Project involved approximately 60 + servers. Script deployed via Opsware to halt and move old database instances so that it would no longer function. Once determined instance was no longer needed, file systems were removed and disk space was reclaimed. Primary support for all deployment related issues.

SCORE Rollout - Installed new file systems for Tivoli Omegamon and Websphere MQ. Project involved over 100 Canadian stores. Shell script deployed via Opsware to perform file system installation. Performed pre/post checks via scripts to ensure completion. Maintained and revised RFC schedule during the rollout. Acted as primary support contact for any issues involving deployment.

In-store Server Upgrades - In a 2000+ store environment, upgraded 700+ stores with new RAID hardware and new application server hardware. Project ran during off-hours (8pm-6am). Led coordination and support efforts to on-site vendors who performed the physical upgrade. Coordinated break/fix resolution between on-site vendors, and Unix engineering team.
