Ajedium films, Solvay Specialty Polymers Corporation, Newark DE

From June 2015 to July 2017

Solvay is an international corporation producing many chemicals including high performance polymers. Ajedium film plant is an outlet for Solvay to produce film and sheets for aerospace, medical, oil and natural gas fracking and micro-speaker industries using Solvay polymers along with other polymers.

Worked as production/process engineer producing from 5 micron films to 40 mil sheets of high performance polymers like ECTFE, PEI, PI, PEEK, PAEK, PEKK, PPSU, COP and many more using calandering process.

Increased production yields from 50 to 60% in a one year developing efficient operating conditions.

Developed more efficient winding (from tension to torque winding) to improve winding and unwinding for customers

Metallized PEEK and PAEK films for micro-speaker industry.

Wrote SOP and MOC for processes for production operators to make their job more productive.

Heavily participated and took a leadership working with HSE manager for HSE projects. Wrote HSA, JHA and BBS to improve plant safety.

Organized SDS for incoming chemicals.

Improved lamination process and increased production efficiency for 40 mil sheets from 30 to 60% within 6 months.

Designed and conducted DOE for process improvement

Conducted RCA for customer complaints.

Steinerfilm, Williamstown, MA from August 1985 to June 2015

Steinerfilm is the privately owned international company metallizing polypropylene. polyester and other polymer films. It supplies metallized films to the capacitor industry worldwide. It produced bi-axially oriented ultra thin capacitor grade polypropylene films and metalized internally till 2012.

Worked as the Plant Manager of the film plant of Steinerfilm Producing homo-polymer bi-axially oriented polypropylene films as thin as 3 micron – a unique achievement in the world capacitor industry for a small private company. Also experimented biodegradable polypropylene resin to produce bi-axial films.

Reported directly to the owner and the president of the company.

Supervised 35 salaried and hourly employees.

Controlled, managed and operated more than 10 million dollars film plant.

Directly involved as the technical specialist of computerized extrusion, machine and transverse direction orientations, corona treatment, winding, custom slitting and recycling film scrap of polypropylene resins.

Created bottom-up teamwork atmosphere among all employees to improve production efficiency, reduce downtime, improve product quality and reduce industrial accidents.

Involved in budgeting, purchasing raw materials, and computerized finished goods inventories.

Wrote and implemented standard process operating conditions, safety procedures and laboratory film testing methods manuals.

Participated in the yearly and multi-yearly contract negotiations with a union for hourly employees.

Negotiated and resolved grievances with union representatives when necessary.

Green belt certification of Six Sigma – a quality control program offered by General Electric. Used the method to reduce film gauge thickness variation from 8 to 5%.

Involved in development of polypropylene capacitor films for electrical cars – needs of the automobile industry for next generation cars.

I also worked as a research and development scientist from 2012 to June 2015 at

Steinerfilm film-metallizing plant in the development of high temperature

capacitors from polypropylene, polyester, polycarbonate, PPS, PVDF, PEN and

other polymer and copolymer substrates.
