Responsibilities:

Leading hand of a team of Caterpillar mechanics of component rebuild section we recondition CAT machines, like : 793, 785C, 777F, 777D, Dump Trucks; 992G,966g Wheel Loaders; D10T,, D9R, Track Dozers and backhoes, kumatsu 785-7 Dump truck, Commissioning of machines which includes testing and adjustment of new installed components, using CAT Electronic Technician (ET) to do calibrations.

To carry out reconditions of faulty and service due components

Rebuilding of HD785-7 final drives, brakes and resealing of the rear suspensions, Differential

To assemble and commission new Transmission

To assist the field service team in carrying out troubleshooting

Preparing of part lists using the part manual and caterpillar service information system(SIS) software

Participate in or provide input to key component failure analysis reports.

Provide information and explain part book and service manuals to the team

Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (E.T.) for diagnosing, troubleshooting, calibration, repairs, changing of configuration and checking of active code, etc., on all Caterpillar machines. After connecting the ET to the machine s communication port, I put on the ignition, and then check the active code, logged code and status (temperature sensors, pressure sensors, speed sensors of the machine). Upon finding defective parts, they are replaced with new one.

Problems:

Dump truck 785cTransmission gear 3 and 4 cannot select,

Pressures of transmission we taken and found out that some of the clutch cannot retain pressure so it was removed and disassembly and inspection was done, I notice that clutch piston seals were torn. It was assembly by preloading transmission transfer gears, continue with changing piston seals, worn out disc and plate and bearings of clutch from no. 1 through to no. 6 clutch, the housing is installed and all bolts and nuts are torque to specifications according to original equipment manufacturer manual (OEM), the component is installed and

Commission is done by checking the pressures and pass the machine out for production.

Responsibilities

Carrying out repairs and maintenance on all CAT Machineries

Rebuilding and Component Change out of CAT D6H dozer and14g grader

Carrying out Troubleshooting using CAT Electronic Technician(ET) Software to detect and repair faulty machineries

Writing reports on daily jobs done.

Implements the Mine s Operational Policies to ensure conformity with Ghana Mine Regulations and International best practices such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.

Possible causes are:

Piston oil rings worn out. Solution is to open engine covers and take off cylinder head to get access to the pistons, remove pistons and replace oil rings.

Oil filters mounting seals and gasket worn out or hardened. Solution is to remove oil filter mounting and replace worn out seals and gasket.

Engine performance is low.

Check air filter and change if it is clogged.

Open engine covers and check valve clearance or for damaged components (valve spring, valves, valve seats, tappets), and repair or replace as necessary.

Ineffective breaking.

Check pressures on slag adjustor (front and rear) or main filter which supplies hydraulic oil to scavenge pump and the brakes (specification is 680 +-28), if not up to the recommended specification, adjust relief valve. After adjustment and pressures are still not correct, then change relief valve

Implement not lifting.

Check working pump pressures, check pilot pressures, if readings are not to specification, then check relieve valve and adjust or change completely if necessary.

General Servicing:

Carried out general servicing (that include 250hrs, 500hrs,, 1000hrs, 2000hrs service), e.g., 2000hrs service involving the following: take all oil samples, drain all compartment oil, fill all compartments with new oil; change out engine, hydraulic, steering, transmission and fuel filters, breather strainers, check for cracks and oil or water leakage.

Hydraulic Problems

Check hydraulic pressures on machine. If pressures are not OK, inspect high pressure filters, if clogged replace. Check pressure again, if high reduce or if low adjust the relief valve to get the manufactures specified pressure. Dismantling, resealing and rebuilding of hydraulic cylinders, replacement of oil seals, wiper seals, backup seal and O-ring. Sand blasting and spraying of machine components, for example: cylinders, splitter box s, final drives
