Performing welder qualification tests for various welding procedure.

In depth reading and understanding of ship structural workshop drawings with details within, of weld types, tolerances specified, sequence of manufacturing /installation, various view details etc.

Monitoring and checking of pre heating temperatures and inter pass temperature.

Witnessing the various NDT methods.

In-depth reading and understanding of relevant specifications/normative referred to in the drawing or required for fabrication of ship structures.

General understanding of quality systems for production, quality control and quality assurance and familiarity with clearance of inspection records/ protocols on computer based quality assurance data management system.

Recording of inspection carried out in the prescribed inspection records /protocols and maintenance of records/ protocols. Suggest modifications, if needed.

Assist overseer or his representative officers and staff, in monitoring progress of work using tools MS excel, MS office, AutoCAD etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In Quality

Periodic inspection of sub vendor to ensure proper usage of approved electrodes, backing & following proper preheating.

Pre – Welding Inspection such as bending, weld edge preparation, bevel angle, root face, root gap, alignment.

Post-welding inspection such as visual check for Arc strikes, weld defects, weld contour, weld width, final dimensional check.

Reviewing of heat treatment chart during PWHT and after completing of PWHT.

Involved in QC activities of coal bunker, CW piping, sea water piping, lub oil piping, critical piping, boiler tube welding.

Surveillance during welding to verify compliance with specified procedures including pre-heat and post heat requirements.

Witnessing the hydro test, Leak Test & air tightness test of the lines as per drawing requirements for the medium of testing.

Conversant with various welding process such as SMAW, GTAW.

In-process weld inspection such as travel speed, voltage, polarity, welding technique, welding time, welding direction, inters pass temperature.

Witnessing the ultrasonic examination of various types of welds and machine components.

Visual Inspection of Structural and pipe welding as per approved quality plan.

Witnessing NDT inspection as per the quality plan requirement.

Co-ordinating with client for the smooth inspection activities.

Good knowledge of weldability, composition of base metals and NDT according to standards.

Witnessing the stage wise inspections of piping as per approved quality plan.
