Worked in a reservation center for Northwest Airlines. Handled calls from around the globe for reservations, changes in reservations, checking fares, and rerouting customers for weather. USAIRWAYS
Ramp Agent and Customer Service Representative July 1992 – May 1994
Initially, I was a Ramp Agent. That entailed moving luggage from plane to plane. Also, it meant stacking very carefully the passenger baggage. Started off in the commuter section where you were up close and personal with the passengers. After about a year, I was moved up to what was called mainline. This is where the jets flew out of. On mainline, I was also a Ramp Agent. Just not as close and up personal with the passengers.
About six months after moving to the mainline. I went into the ticket counter. There you solved passengers’ anxiety about flying, checked them in and checked their luggage. Weather nights were hard because you could not voucher people. The airline has nothing to do with the weather, so therefore you dealt with lots of unhappy people. Every day was a new adventure at the airline.
Reason for leaving: Had better opportunities at Northwest Airlines
