RELEVANT ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Quantitative Research Proposal
· Situation and Task: Developed a comprehensive research proposal using quantitative methods. Investigated relationship between key variables using statistical analysis to generate actionable insights. Analyzed datasets for research projects, identifying patterns and trends to support academic findings. Dataset analyzed had over 50 data points.
· Design and Analysis: Developed, implemented, and critically evaluated research designs, including experimental, quasi-experimental, single-subject, and correlational methodologies. Analyzed quantitative data by applying statistical techniques such as regression analysis, ANOVA, and over 50 t-tests to test hypotheses and determine relationships between variables.
· Proposal Creation: Authored a comprehensive research proposal that applied an experimental/quasi-experimental/correlational design to investigate specific research question, focusing on variables of interest and conducting statistical analyses to derive actionable insights.
Survey Design Study
· Situation and Task: Administered a custom survey to 35 participants using a convenience and non-random sample, ensuring efficient data collection and entry into SPSS for analysis. Conducted descriptive statistics on all survey items, calculating percentages, means, and standard deviations to summarize responses across the sample.
· Statistics Application: Performed item analysis on a Likert scale consisting of 10 items, deleting negatively discriminating items and rerunning the analysis. Achieved a final Cronbach's alpha of 0.85, confirming strong internal reliability of the scale. Computed total scores for Likert scale items and presented descriptive statistics, including a mean total score of 3.8 (SD = 0.7). Correlated the total scale score with a self-rating item, yielding a correlation coefficient of r = 0.65, indicating moderate construct validity. Utilized inferential statistics, including t-tests and chi-square tests, to explore relationships between demographic variables and scale responses, revealing significant associations.
· Table Design: Created tables and graphs to visually represent key findings, interpreted data through the lens of class readings and wrote report that discussed data analysis results, challenges encountered survey fatigue, sample recruitment and lessons learned about survey design, implementation, and statistical analysis.
Qualitative Research Study
· Situation and task: Tasked with exploring how cultural identity influences academic experiences in a qualitative research methods class. Designed and executed a qualitative study at a selected place to involve interviewing 2 participants and observing their academic interactions for over 30 minutes per week.
· Approach Synthesis: Gained expertise in six distinct qualitative research methodologies, including phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, case study, narrative analysis.
· Study Design: Designed a research study to explore specific research question and how cultural identity influences academic experiences of qualitative research. Integrated qualitative approaches to address complex social phenomena, focusing on participant experiences and context. Gathered and coded over 30 minutes of interview data with identifying over 10 key themes related to cultural adaptation challenges.
· Data Collection and Management: Conducted in-depth interviews and participant observations to gather rich, nuanced data. Implemented data coding techniques and thematic analysis to identify key patterns and themes, leading to significant insights on specific discoveries or impacts with how cultural adaptation challenges affect academic success.
Data Analysis Practicum
· Situation and task: Engaged in a practicum where socio-economic status and its impact on academic achievement were the focus of analysis. Analyzed over 10 complex datasets using advanced statistical methods to uncover predictors of academic success among low-income students.
· Statistical Application: Applied advanced 3 statistical methods, including regression analysis, factor analysis, and multivariate techniques, to analyze complex datasets related to the impact of socio-economic status on academic achievement.
· Reporting: Compiled and authored comprehensive reports summarized key findings, including the identification of significant predictors and patterns in the data. Led to actionable insights that informed specific impact for improving educational access for low-income students.
