The Student Engagement Services Office was responsible for overseeing the Henderson Campus, Student Services areas, Commencement, and the Student Conduct Office for the Henderson and Online Campuses

The office seeks to help students, from diverse backgrounds (ethnic, social, and financial) succeed in college and achieve their educational goals and dreams. I function as the administrative assistant in support of the AVP. Monitor and troubleshoot in the Student Services area. All concerns that could not be resolved in the student services areas were sent to the AVP’s office to resolve. I listened to the students’ problems/concerns, found solutions and/or directed them to the office of person who could resolve issue, always maintaining confidentiality in a professional and caring manner. In the student conduct area – assured that sufficient evidence was presented to pursue the case; wrote and mailed letters notifying students of alleged conduct; contacted students for appointments, greeted students and answered inquiries concerning conduct; proctored student assessment after students reviewed materials and took the test. Commencement – prepared all purchase orders and other arrangements (assisted in proofing booklet; coordinating with other commencement participants) for commencement to ensure a smooth commencement ceremony.

Position: Administrative Assistant

The Office of Student Retention Services seeks to help students, from diverse backgrounds (ethnic, social, and financial) succeed in college and achieve their educational goals and dreams. I function as the administrative assistant in support of three Retention Specialists. Duties: Contact students, verbally and in writing, in regards to instructor’s reports of students’ performance early warning system (E-Alert) in class in an effort to convince students to seek additional services – Retention Services. E-Alert presentations to students in specified classrooms (three different classrooms). Update E-Alert Report and student card files; provide answers to students’ (parents and others) queries in relation to the services offered by the office. Explain Retention Services to Faculty and others off campus.

Position: Administrative Assistant

Function as administrative assistant to all of the executives mentioned above. I functioned as AAIV for Enrollment and Student Services, after the department was re-organized from its previous structure (SEFS). My longest span of service was with Dr. Judy Belanger, who was the Executive Director for Student Enrollment and Financial Services (SEFS) for over six years (as AA III & AA IV). This department presided over the Admissions, Registrar’s and Financial Aid offices. During that time I functioned as her assistant, office manager, and department secretary. In the Food and Beverage Department, I functioned as an AA II, for Dr. John Stefanelli, Chair of the department for three years as department secretary and assistant to the department chair. During my first four years at UNLV, I functioned as an Administrative Aid and Administrative Assistant I & II to Continuing Education, Environmental Research Center, and the ROTC – Military Science departments.

Positions included the following functions:

Provided excellent customer service to students, professors, external and internal professionals and co-workers.

Typed and formatted department minutes, correspondence, exams, syllabi, lesson plans, etc. for professors and department chairpersons.

Responded to inquires from parents, students and others regarding class schedules, requirements, and other pertinent class concerns.

Ordered and purchased supplies and services for classrooms and administrative uses.

Acted as department personnel liaison between UNLV, and Human Resources concerning insurance, leave keeping, recruitments, and all other Human Resources related matters including the review and maintenance of personnel records; and annual and sick leave accounts.

Monitored, tracked and prepared budgets and budget sheets or department accounts. Made budget recommendations to director/department chairs. Monthly accounts reconciliation with accountant. Processed LPO’s, RX’s, IDR’s, and other purchasing/disbursement related documents.

I functioned as an administrative assistant in the Property Book Office in Mainz, Germany. I later functioned as the divisional office manager; maintaining and cataloging all inventoriable office equipment within the Mainz Military Community. I was responsible for repair and / or equipment surplus, and typing all correspondence within the division. I also functioned as the Alternate Imprest Funds Cashier. My responsibilities in this duty included requesting, receiving and securing funds; tracking and assuring that monies were being spent according to and within the specified government regulations regarding the Imprest Fund. I supervised four other clerk typists.

German Tax-Free Shopping – Assist military personnel, their families, and other Americans in filing our paper work to avoid paying the German Value Added Tax for purchases over $200.00.

This position was a non-appropriated funds position.

I wanted to become a permanent government worker with GS status and I wanted to work closer to home. Wiesbaden was a 30-45 min drive in the snow from my home in Mainz, West Germany. Errands throughout the military community. Receptionist and typist.

This position was a part-time on call position I wanted to work full-time therefore I chose a position in Weisbaden, West Germany.

Secretary for Director, Housing Office - Secretary for housing director. The housing office renovated dilapidated homes for senior citizens, weather proofing, and repairing roofs, etc. An application to determine eligibility (age and financial requirements according to federal government regulations) was assessed for each family. Site visits to homes of applicants who were unable to come to the office. Visits were also conducted for a visual of the home. Annotate all information in the file (case file).

Federal funding for the program was phased out.
