PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT
A researcher, professional and academic with twenty-four (24) years’ experience specialising in Food Science, Technology and Nutrition to promote Food Security, Safety and Nutrition from farm to industry in the education and development sectors at the national and international level.
Completed Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Biotechnology at the Kathmandu University (KU) - Nepal with the topic “Functional and Bioactive Ingredients of Chiraito (Swertia Chirayita) and its application in food” in December 2020.
My Doctoral Research focused on medicinal plants and included the analysis of different bioactive compounds present in medicinal plants to carry out its effect on different cancer cell lines with the help of diet therapy. The research contributed to medical science by characterising specific and cost-effective biomarkers in the early prevention of breast, colon and brain cancer and assessing response to treatment.
I completed my European master's Degree (MSc by research) under the Erasmus Mundus fellowship funded by the European Commission (EC) Jointly from Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and Ireland. I performed my MSc research on the Application of Millet in bread production (at the Hochschule Anhalt (FH) in Germany) that sought to address the potential global food crisis.
I have acquired an MTech (master’s in food technology) study with research on the determination of pesticide residue in raw milk.
Published research items (International and National) that include doctoral and master’s level research papers contributing to the field of food technology (food tech), Nutritional Science, education, and other related sectors, and participated in several international and national conferences relevant to my field of interest.
I am actively engaged in academic and research activities broadly on biosecurity, disease management and prevention, particularly on food and nutrition, having my current engagement across the medical and agriculture sector at four universities (Kathmandu University, Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University and Purbanchal University) in Nepal as adjunct associate professor/ visiting faculty and external resource person.
Employed at the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in Nepal as a Food Research Officer. The focus of this role spans the broader category of Biosecurity and food technology with core activities on the analysis of various food and food products, further quality standards, chemical and micro-biological analysis of feeds and feed products, contaminants and additives, research and development activities, in food processing technology, training on different areas of food processing, packing and post-harvest operations, research on various aspects of food consumptions and nutrition and the publications.
I also enhanced my knowledge of Food Safety Quality Management and Crisis Management Systems across academic, research and professional sectors as well as through the technical and administrative perspectives and increased my knowledge in Laboratory accreditation, including system certification and its use in the Food Processing sector.
I possess demonstrated experience in conducting research on Diet therapy that focuses on Meal planning for patients in hospitals, taking around food safety attributes, which, at its core, focuses on issues associated with food and nutritional security. Additionally, I proposed the national strategy to strengthen the National Food and Nutritional security to mitigate health problems.
