Here is a breakdown of my experience in each of the duties I have been involved with:
Payroll – In this roll, I have used many platforms, such as ADP, Ceridian, Kronos and Paychex. Processing payrolls consist of evaluating weekly timecards and assuring the timecards are correct before processing. Things I look for are late punches, long lunches, missed punches along with assuring the company’s OT is kept to a minimum.
Attendance Tracking – Review weekly timecards and maintain the spreadsheet for assigning points to employees for their infractions and assuring the employee warnings are handled within a reasonable amount of time.
Recruiting – Recruiting is a tedious but important function in human resources. Once a position is posted, sorting through each resume looking for the right candidate and weeding out the ones that may not be a good fit for the company takes a special skill.
Maintain Employee Files – Making sure all employees’ files are kept in a confidential manner and understanding the importance of setting up each employee file correctly to assure confidentiality.
Benefits Enrollment – One of my favorite tasks in HR. Meeting with groups of employees during open enrollment to ensure they have the correct information to make a educated decision on the best plan for them and their family. My success rate for 100% enrollment before the deadline has always been met. During new hire orientation, the benefit packet is explained to each new hire, and I like to follow up 2 weeks later to make sure they get enrolled in a time manner.
FMLA – I take a lot of pride in knowing the FMLA law and how to implement it into a company in such a manner where we can keep the abuse of FMLA down to a minimum.
Safety/OSHA – I have always been involved in Safety. Conduct weekly/monthly safety meetings, form a safety committee, conduct safety walkthroughs, file with the state the incident report of injury within a 24-hour time frame. Schedule doctor’s appointments for injured employees. Assure employees return to work in a timely manner by following up with both the employee and company’s physician.
