Speaking Personally...
Q How has international experience shaped the way you do business? A. As an executive who has worked in several major multinational companies, including BASF (ranked 34th in global size), Dainippon (105th) and Arvato (38th), I think locally to gain a better understanding, but also reflect global consideration in my decision-making. What could change some of my decisions? A few factors that influence my decision-making include raw materials, supply chain/logistics, and taxes/duties. These can alter your business position within a region, and how you relate to your competitor’s critical thinking is a must in these areas. Q What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishment? A. The single largest was the starting up a group with Dainippon Ink and Chemical. I was hired as the Director of Specialty products, and persuaded the management team to market their product line outside of Japan. I developed a business plan, including operating budget, technology migration plan, sales and profitability projections, and marketing structure, including head counts for supporting sales. During the development of the program, the industry faced the issue of accidental erasure on cards in the field. As the North American director, I represented the company and worked with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop the new specification. Working with my staff in Japan and ANSI, we submitted a product that was accepted as the global standard for all card technology. The result: I had the only product that met the new specification; therefore, we controlled sales globally outside of Asia.
Q What distinct advantage will you bring to your next employer? A. I’ve spent my career developing and honing the ability to be a business development sales/marketing executive, from start-up to global enterprises for some of the largest corporation in the world. My inquisitive nature allows me to bridge the gap between technology and sales. I develop a broader understanding of the subject matter, formulate strategies and explain and deliver to clients. Some call it salesmanship; I call it listening to the client’s needs and providing win-win solutions. Additionally, my years of leadership experience enable me to motivate and inspire teams to perform at world-class levels, and drive revenue and profits to new heights.
