Experience

•Licensed Adjuster. I have attained my All Lines Texas Adjuster License. Additionally, I hold similar licenses in Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Michigan and Maine. With my Xactimate Certification I can serve as a Claims Adjuster for Property Catastrophe and Auto.

•Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. As an LNFA, I dealt extensively with the regulatory aspects of special care homes. Carousel Care Center specialized in persons with Intellectual Challenges, Brain Injuries and Developmental Disabilities. This population presented special challenges for the staff and myself. We routinely accepted people who could not find placement in conventional facilities, and had great success restoring their health, caring for them and/or returning them to a more independent lifestyle. These residents were intensely rewarding and personally broadening.

•Management. Starting with one home in San Antonio, and later managing eleven nursing homes with a staff of hundreds, I have performed a gamut of managerial, accounting and physical plant duties such as:

Publications/Presentations

Marketing: I have twenty years of experience writing and designing brochures and other printed media. I excel at written communication and am an excellent graphic artist. Several of my jingles, video commercials and radio spots have had extensive airtime in local markets. I also served as a staff writer for the NBC affiliate in Brownsville, TX.

Industry Specific Publications: I have created Policies and Procedures manuals for the nursing home industry. I am proficient in Plans of Correction, Care Plans and Corporate Communications such as memorandum and business letters. I produce Video In-Service Publications.

Reporting Experience

Cost Report Preparer: I obtained my Certification to be a Texas Nursing Home Cost Report Preparer in 1994 and renewed this certification annually afterward. This report details all revenue collection and cost for the fiscal year, submitted within strict deadlines and confirmed by the Texas Office of the Inspector General. I have completed dozens of these reports over the past sixteen years.

Plans of Correction: Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services requires an exacting report compiled in response to perceived deficiencies in the care given to nursing home residents. Failure to properly complete this process will result in loss of the facility’s license and funding. The process also serves as an excellent methodology for identifying and correcting problems that can be employed in any industry.
