Leader of a team effort that generated more than $2M in donations at WDSU following the September 11th attack on America. Established live, fundraising broadcasts over multiple days to assist the Red Cross with deploying physical and psychological help for survivors and families.
Recruited as one of a five-member management/development team to launch a start-up CBS affiliate, one of the first digitally equipped newsrooms creating station image, mission, goals and recruiting talent.
Invited as a news producer on two military transport missions to Somalia to report on the tribal warfare. Our team responded to the need for help by working with Johns Hopkins and Milwaukee medical leaders to return to Somalia with more than $1.5 million in medical supplies. We returned in just weeks with medical teams to distribute the aid to Somalia and Ethiopia and educate tribal leaders on basic life-saving nutrition.
Initiated and led an $800,000 fundraising campaign, rallying support for an 8-year-old girl who needed an experimental multiple organ transplant to survive. Medicaid rejected the experimental procedure. The campaign and storytelling not only rallied the community in support of the family but increased the awareness of at-risk families and communities.
