Bio
I was born in Pascagoula, MS in 1968. Both my mother, Faye, and father, Ralph, were educators at the public school and college level. I attended Pascagoula High School where he was heavily involved in athletics. In 1985 he was the recipient of the Will Sageart award for the football player that exemplifies the best attitude. In 1986 I graduated from Pascagoula High School, and from there he attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. I then enrolled in Mississippi State University where I received a Bachelor's Degree in secondary math education. In 1992, I then began working in the Mobile County Public School System as a high school teacher while working as a math tutor at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. However, in 1993 I found my way to middle schools and realized that was the place I loved to be. Since then I have worked in inner city schools as well as schools in rural areas, teaching secondary level mathematics. In 2002, I began pursuing National Board Certification and achieved this honor in 2004. I was selected "Teacher of the Year" by Lott Middle School for the 2003-2004 school year. I also accepted the role of strength and conditioning coach for Citronelle High school athletics. My passion for fitness began at 14 years of age, at which time, I began book studies on exercise and nutrition. I have obtained 8 different fitness certifications over many years in order to eliminate gaps in knowledge in order to serve all populations of people. These include: personal trainer, strength and conditioning for athletes, bodybuilding and nutrition, and group fitness. My greatest blessing in this area came through meeting the hall of fame fitness icons whom wrote the books I studied and training under them. I have trained with Lee Haney (1984-91 Mr. Olympia) and serve as a master trainer in his organization, Frank Zane (1977-79 Mr Olympia), Rich Gaspari (Mr. Universe), and Steve Davis. (1977 Mr World). Hence, I have worked with the tried and true legends with expert knowledge on exercise science and nutrition. I also owned my own gym, Lane's Rock Solid Fitness for over a decade and trained many populations with many different conditions and goals. For the last three years I have worked as the Manager of Personal Training for Crunch Fitness in Decatur, AL and currently in Hattiesburg, MS. I have both educational and hands-on applied knowledge combined with 30 years of teaching experience.
Philosophy of Education
I believe that education should enrich every area of a person's life. It should produce both knowledge, yet also problem solving skills that allow an individual to successfully navigate through life in all of then roles they perform in their profession, family life, and relationships. This is particularly valuable due to the fact that we are part of a global and ever changing world. In other words, we need problem solving skills that enable us to meet challenges that we may encounter in the future that we may not be able to currently predict. Furthermore, I believe that all people are learners and capable of learning. However, we are all blessed with individual gifts and talents that have been bestowed upon us to add value to the world. This also means that we learn in different ways. As an educator, it is my job to present information in many different ways in order to address each individuals particular learning style.
