Worked during the start-up of the new OCC plant. Worked with the staff, contractors, and operators to assist with the start-up and optimization of the new facility bringing the plant to its 700 ton per day designed capability.
Worked at the company’s wet lap facility to assist with the optimization of the plant to increase production by 50 tons per day and reduce waste by 25%. Worked with the staff to get the fine screening system and forward cleaners in operation and optimized.
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the OCC and Pulp warehouse. Coordinate with purchasing, receiving, shipping, and operations for the receipt and storage of the raw material.

Start-Up Mill Chemical Engineer – Contract Position
Key Results:
Received quotations for the new chemical tanks from suppliers. Reviewed the production costs, styles, and designs and worked with purchasing to ensure the project stayed within budget.
Partner with vendors to order chemical equipment for the new paper mill. This includes the pumps, electrical equipment, and control panels to monitor and control the flow of the chemicals during operation.
Partner with the starch equipment manufacturer for the new starch system for the wet end and size press installation. Reviewed the designs, upgrades from previous projects, and worked with purchasing to ensure the project stayed within budget.
GREIF CORPORATION – RIVERVILLE, VA
Operations Process Engineer and OCC Coordinator 4/2009 – 3/2018
Key Results:
Promoted to the position of Operations Process Engineer and OCC Coordinator after demonstrating an ability to learn quickly and master complex processes.
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the OCC plant. Coordinate shutdown work with maintenance, operators, and contractors. Made recommendations to management for new parts and equipment. Worked with vendors on ordering replacement parts and equipment.
Partner with vendors to enhance production efficiency of the OCC plant. Assisted with the OCC plant equipment upgrade, achieving a 200-ton per day production increase. Tasks included daily interfacing with equipment vendor to maintain work schedule and coordinate work plans with vendor and mill staff.
Responsible for the inventory control of all chemicals in operations. Ordered and inventoried all the chemicals. Worked with Accounting and Auditors to monitor the financial costs associated with chemical consumption, usage, and storage.
Managed relationships with chemical vendors including coordinating chemical deliveries, monitoring chemical program performance, reviewing chemical proposals, and organizing and conducting trials.
Implement chemical trials throughout the mill.
oPartnered with Nalco Chemicals and conducted a treatment trial on the cooling towers on the paper machine to improve the efficiency of the cooling towers and to reduce treatment costs. The treatment program resulted in a 50% increase in the efficiency of the cooling towers and lowered the treatment costs by 25% equaling a $50,000/year in savings.
oPartnered with Kemira Chemicals to change the defoamer in the OCC plant and automate the system. In the first stage a direct replacement resulted in a 10% reduction in cost. In the second stage the automation of the system resulted in a 60% reduction in cost equaling a $100,000/year in savings.
oExecuted Dye trials on the linerboard grades to find a safer alternative to the current dye product and to reduce operating costs by 20%.
oExecuted dry strength trials - increased daily production on the paper machine by 15%.
oPerformed dryer felt cleaner trials - increased the life of the dryer felts on the paper machine by 20%.
Pulp Mill & Powerhouse Process Engineer 12/2007 – 3/2018

Implement chemical trials throughout the Pulp Mill and Powerhouse.
oPartnered with Nalco Chemicals and implemented new chemical monitoring programs to monitor chemical consumption, tank levels, and efficiency of the boilers in the Powerhouse.
oPartnered with Kemira Chemicals and conducted defoamer trials to improve brown stock washer efficiency and increase productivity in the pulp mill by 10%, plus a reduction in defoamer consumption by 60% equaling a $60,000/year in savings.
Certified as a Visible Emissions Evaluator - Ensure EPA compliance for visible emissions and non-condensable gas emissions. Monitor monthly fuel usage and production costs, troubleshoot variances, and maintain reports for management and government agencies.
