Chamberlain College of Nursing - Houston

One of fourteen campuses of the Chamberlain College of Nursing in conjunction with the DeVry Education Group with a student enrollment of approximately 400 BSN students. This campus offers the accelerated BSN program in a 3-year period with 16-week terms. The BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Chamberlain College of Nursing is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Campus Operations, the Campus President provides oversight to the Pearland and Irving campuses and is responsible for achieving quality outcomes, maintaining a growth plan, and achieving profitability goals of the campus. Serves as chief administrator of the campus by implementing Chamberlain’s program, philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes and course objectives to students through classroom, clinical teaching and service to the college and the community. Oversees the admission, academic progression, and graduation of students. Works collaboratively with national directors in executing national processes and policies that apply to the campus. Oversees contractual agreements between the campus and all parties with whom the campus engages in business relationships, including clinical facilities.

The largest of 4 campuses of Galen College of Nursing with a total student enrollment of 1150 students. This is a baccalaureate-granting, nursing-only, private institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Schools. The programs offered at the San Antonio Campus include associate degree nursing bridge program. Both on-ground and hybrid, as well as vocational nursing certificate. A baccalaureate degree will be offered for this location in late 2014 or early 2015.

The Academic Dean served as the chief lead and academic officer for the campus overseeing instruction and operations. Major responsibilities included budget development and management, faculty and staff hiring and evaluation, implementation of measures that promote positive student outcomes, implementation of measures that promote positive performance and college outcomes, policy deployment and management, resolution of student issues, student satisfaction, curriculum integrity, and serving as interim ADN program director as needed. Accomplishments:

Instructional administrator responsible for overall development, implementation, and evaluation of the total instructional program including faculty, instructional methods, textbooks, etc., according to the standards established by the Area Commission, accrediting agencies, high performance competencies and the State Board. Responsible to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for the total operational function of the division including associate and practical nursing programs, health science programs, paralegal program; social sciences, biology and natural sciences, child development programs, and the library. Accomplishments:

Facilitated the programs in the development of student learning outcomes for all courses and programs

Provided academic and administrative leadership in support of the college’s mission through effective policies, services, programs, personnel, and resources within the academic core areas. Serve and facilitate various campus committees such as Instructional Council, Direct Reports, Curriculum Committee, President’s Cabinet, College Management Committee, and Enrollment Management. Projected off-site locations include a high school and area hospital. Combined credit enrollments at all centers and off-site locations currently about 1700.

As the administrative dean for the centers reporting directly to the College President, responsibilities included to provide leadership and oversight for strategic planning, development, evaluation, and improvement for instructional areas, student and business services, and general operations. Maintained collaborative relationships with community and college leadership. Provided programs that meet the diverse needs of the students and communities. Provided effective and safe learning environments. Established and implemented strategies for serving the educational needs of the college’s service area. Worked with the community, Chambers of Commerce, and other entities to increase educational partnerships with the college and to determine the community educational needs within the college’s service area. Identified unmet institutional needs/opportunities that influence instructional programs within the college’s service area. As an instructional dean reporting directly to the Vice President for Teaching & Learning, my responsibilities included direct administrative leadership for credit programs in nursing, pharmacy technology, health information technology, emergency medical services professions, professional medical office careers, and medical assisting. Continuing education programs included nursing assistant, phlebotomy technician, medication aide, EKG technician, health and personal trainer, and nurse refresher. Other responsibilities included the planning and evaluation of student faculty success, coordination, and facilitation of assigned curriculum teams and advisory committees, maintenance of effective division communication regarding academic planning, program development/implementation, and program review. My additional responsibilities included the management of the divisional budget process, improvement of instructional quality, and coordination of benchmarking and accountability for division success in terms of student outcomes.
