Warehouse Associate

Scrapbook.com Gilbert AZ

April 2014 to July 2020

I started in the picking department. I used a handheld scanning device to process multiple orders at the same time and bring them to the packing area. When working in the packing area, you scan each order as you pack them. Then, you put the boxes on the conveyor belt and send them off to shipping.

In the receiving department, I brought either boxes or pallets into the receiving area after the driver unloaded them from the truck. When ready to receive each vendor, we entered the PO number into the scanning device. We would scan an item and the gun would tell us how many were ordered. After counting, the number would be entered into the gun. When putting away the merchandise, you would enter the PO number in the put away mode. You would scan an item, enter the count, until you finished the amount of product your cart could hold. Then you would tell the gun you are ready to put it away and it leads you in warehouse order. Then, you scan each item, enter the recounted quantity, put the items in the location and scan the barcode of the location. You then move onto the next consecutive item until the order is completed.

I devised a system that streamlined and organized the multiple pallets of orders. Numbered cones were put on top of the pallets. There was a large dry-erase board that was divided into information sections. All pertinent info was listed on the board as it corresponds to the numbered cones.

Locations could easily be moved using the scanner guns and magnets with location barcodes on them. When moving locations of either new items or condensing shelving space I would turn the magnets upright so I could tell which items still needed to be located. This practice soon spread throughout the employees who liked the idea of not losing an unlocated product. Imagine putting a book on a library shelf, turning around, and then trying to find said book in a full wall of books.
