Principal Investigator: Dr. Kyle Orwig

Lab responsibilities including potential patients with medical conditions that are at high risk and receive high dosages of medical regimes that may cause infertility. Our groups consist of patients who are at significant risk for infertility due to their medical regimens. Men and women that wish to pursue fertility at a time may have the due to the cryopreservation of the testes or ovaries. The goal of these study is to make them a standard of care option.

Another approved fertility study is for gender affirming patients who are taking blockers, or hormones that can also at put them at risk for infertility and may pursue fertility options later.

We currently have 34 sites implanted throughout the US that are doing the same produces and sending the tissue to us for processing and freezing. It is also shipped to our long-term facility.

Daily routines involve answering phones and communicating with all of 34 sites around from the US and sometimes international patients seeking fertility options.

Coordinating couriers are requested from are coordinating sites around the US and our job is to work with the other coordinators to schedule pickup and deliver the tissue from them to our andrology lab. Along with working with the staff to make sure the complete paperwork is correct and accurate for their patients.

Administrate: filing chart, follow up with coordinating staff that has not sent in their paperwork.

Attending weekly meetings

Working with couriers to make sure all tissue samples are collected in a timely manner and sent back to us safely for our andrology lab.

Communicating with our Andrology Fertility Lab to update upcoming tissue deliveries.

Collecting Adverse Events and preparing them for quarterly Data Safety Monitor Meetings (DSMM) or reporting the adverse events to the IRB.

Consenting call for families and educating them about options for fertility.

Working with medical team which includes the surgery scheduling assistant, social worker and physicians to communicate and have accurate information to schedule surgery around the patient’s treatment plan.

Our population consists of for children of all ages up until approximately age 50.

Gender dysphoric kids included in our studies must provide assent and, in that case, we educate all family members about the risks and benefits about preserving tissue. Whereas children over 9 must also provide assent unless the child is not able to due to the family’s choice or medical conditions.

Collecting patient data through Epic and Cerner.

Prepping Specimen cup for surgery the next day.

Communicating with all lab staff on calendar for constant coverage during working time or off peak times including weekend when potential tissue may arrive for the andrologists.
