I am employed as the plant Environmental Health and Safety Specialist. I manage all Environmental, Health and Safety aspects of the plant, the plant First Responder and Health and Safety Committee Teams and conduct training for the employees for the four locations in Greenville, Alabama and the North York, Ontario Canada location. I also am the Manager of the Plant EHS Technician, who shares the EHS Department duties and projects. I serve as the Radiation Safety Officer for the plant, overseeing the safety of radiation testing equipment for the Quality Control Department. I also am a member of the plant Safety Steering Committee. Hubbell CMC employs 300 people in the five facilities and is a major manufacturer of electrical connector parts.

I was the Co-Owner and Co-Manager, with my wife Nicole, of Twin Flames Ranch. TFR is a total, off the grid 160-acre ranch specializing in the production and preservation heritage breeds of cattle, swine, goats, poultry and rabbits. Our goal is to maintain heritage livestock breeds, some of which are on the conservancy list, and to treat them with all the love that we can provide while providing a source of personal food stock and breeding stock sales. We also have horses that help us work the ranch. We reside on the ranch and have hand built all structures and infrastructure from the ground up. We grow, can, and preserve our own food, and provide functional and ornamental blacksmithing and produce a lot of things for our needs such as homemade soaps, detergents, and natural medications. In early 2017, Discovery Channel incorporated our family, and our ranch for filming of an episode for a television show series about living off the grid.

I was employed as the Plant Safety Chargehand. My duties include attending to all health, safety and fire protection issues of the plant. I led the morning Safety Meeting and the monthly Joint Health and Safety Meeting, liaison with WorkSafe BC, BC Safety Authority, Safety Consultants and Insurance Agencies. I wrote and implemented the company Railway Safety Plan and all associated procedures for our railcar loading facility as required by the BC Safety Authority Railway Division. I maintained documentation relating to all plant safety and fire protection, and training. I conducted all contractor and new employee safety indoctrinations, conduct spot safety audits, and continually interact with all employees, contractors, and visitors on safety related issues. I have written and implemented many policies and procedures that cover many health, safety, and fire protection problems. I have also written and implemented plant start-up and shut down procedures, operating procedures and penned many PM check sheets for plant fire protection, and plant equipment maintenance. I conducted training as needed for employees and serve as one of the plants Occupational First Aid Attendants. I maintained plant first aid and firefighting equipment and confined space monitoring equipment. I scheduled the annual hearing tests, and conduct respirator fit testing for plant employees. I conduct investigations on incidents, accidents and near misses to identify and rectify the cause. I maintained the company safety training, and safety statistic databases. I was named the Plants Safety Representative during the construction phase of the plant expansion. During this time, I worked with as many as 14 different Contract Companies on site, representing over 180 workers throughout the project. I have also worked with the process to enable Pacific Bio Energy to achieve it’s COR Certification. I was the chief Operator and Maintainer of the plants Wet Electrostatic Precipitator. I also worked as needed as a Journeyman Millwright.

My duties included working as a Maintenance Mechanic in various areas of the power plant including, but not limited to, Coal Handling, Turbine and Generator Systems, Boiler and Steam Systems, Metal Welding and Fabricating, Light Machine Shop and Electrical work, Heavy Duty Mechanics and various construction projects. As part of my job, I was also fully trained to operate all overhead and mobile cranes, forklifts, and man lifts. I was also fully cross trained as a Coal Equipment Operator, where I gained and utilized skills in operating all plant heavy equipment such as bulldozers, scrapers, loaders, graders, backhoes, tractors, stacker re-claimers, locomotives, and various plant conveyor systems. I was also trained as a Crew Deck Technician on the plant tow boats, responsible for the safe moving of loaded and empty coal barges to and from the plant unloading facility on the Ohio River. On top of these jobs, I served as a volunteer on the plants First Responder EMS, Safety and Emergency Response Teams, the plant Fire Brigade, the plant Confined Space and High Angle Rope Rescue Teams. I served as a Volunteer Fireman and Emergency Medical First Responder, holding various positions in the organization such as Vice President, President, Firefighter, Captain and retired as Assistant Chief. LTFD is a full-service Fire, EMS and Rescue Department making an average of 150 fire, rescue, and medical runs per year, operating two fully equipped stations in Luce Township. Our pride was in the leadership our department had in Spencer County as far as procedure, training, equipment, and service. As Assistant Chief, I was in charge of the Richland City, Indiana Station. I also served on the Spencer County Fire Chiefs Association Board, which set protocol and dealt with fire, medical, rescue and disaster response related items for the County’s eleven fire departments.
Personal Interests
I enjoy many outdoor activities such as fly fishing, hunting, camping, boating, gardening, and Horses. I am an avid golfer. I tie flies and hand-make my own fishing lures. I enjoy metal fabrication and traditional blacksmithing as a hobby, building creations ranging from hand forged campfire and fireplace irons and plant hangers to utility trailers. Antique tractor and farm machinery restoration is also a hobby of mine. I also enjoy reading and writing and hope to have my first book completed and published within the next few years.
