Professional Experiences

Responsibilities:

Milking: Milking of 310 friesian and Ayshire cows three times in herringbone with strip cup test, pre dipping and post dipping. Ensured clean milk containers, floor and equipment with the standerd level. Set up the equipment for milking, Efficient milking and keep an eye on critical points (teat spray, plant cooler, vacuum pressure). Carried out washing quickly and efficiently minimize water usage.

Calf Rearing: Neonatal calf handling, Colestrum feeding, Bottle feeding, Bucket feeding, Shed cleaning and maintaining, Debudding, Dehorning, Ear tagging, Tattooing, Weaning and records keeping.

Health Management: Daily herd visit for observation to identify and diagnose health problems early, treat them within my ability effectively and efficiently. Record clearly, Use recommended drugs in recommended dosage. Monitor mastitis cows and treat them, Milk fever detection and treatment,Deworming, Vaccination, Low yielding cow observation, Bio security system management. Responsible for lame cows identification and treatments ( hoof trimming, Foot block application, treatments for abscesse and ulsers). Feeding and caring for milking herd: Entire task in TMR by achieving feed budget. Making feed cart according to the various dry matter levels in fodder to maximize the requirement of cows. Full confident with the tractor works. Dry off pregnant cows with dry cow therapy. Calving: Full experience in calving including, Assisted calving, colostrum feeding, regular checking of calves, treatments for down cows, and measure quality of gold colostrum, all the shed management including post calving mastitis treatments. Arrange calve pens before calving starts, clean and disinfect, Responsible for calving of cows and general works that goes with the calving, Walk around calving pens before morning milking and regularly thereafter, Responsible for all the calving records. Pasture Management: Pasture establishment (Rain irrigated), Supervising pasture cutting, fertilizing and replanting pasture lands and manage the pasture to control quantity and quality to an acceptable standard, Ensure pasture are grazed effectively, Measure and record the pasture growth according to that feed allocation for cows, Control weed in farm all the time required and maintain pasture in tidy condition.

Fencing: Prepared the electrical fences and change the place of fence to new paddock. Breeding: Full experience of breeding, including heat detection, heat mount detectors applying to the required standards, Heat syncronization programmes, conducting pregnancy diagnosis (ultra sound scaning), take the appropriate reproductive treatments for problem breeders, keeping records of breeding.

2. Ridiyagama Dairy Farm- Ambalanthota, Sri Lanka. A dairy farm with a total herd size is 3500 of friesian and Friesian Jersey cross breeds and 1000 ha of pasture/ fodder land. Milking 1500 cows in a 2 times per day for the majority of the year and producing 18500 L of milk per day. Cows spend all of their time in barns (Intensive zero grazing) and feed them primarily TMR, with supplements of corn and sorghum silage when necessary. Fodder cultivate under the 6 center pivot irrigation system.

Im managing this dairy farm with a total herd size is 1036 of friesian and Ayshire. Milking 581 cows in a 3 times per day and producing 18600 L of milk per day (average production is 32 L/Cow/Day) . Cows spend all of their time in barns (Intensive zero grazing) and feed them primarily TMR, with supplements of corn, Rye grass and Alfa alfa when necessary. Parlour type is parallel frount exist which can milked 40 animals in a one time. Year round calving system in here.
